Dear TSGers,
It's not just Scotland that is taking a historic vote next week. The Royal and Ancient Golf club are voting to decide whether women should be allowed in to their club!
As such, we spoke to Felicity Dunderdale of FOREwomen.co.uk and asked her to give us her views on the state of the ladies game in the UK ...

Good to see that ladies are now to be offered memberships, it is about time, after all we all welcome equality in all its guises. Personally I believe that lady golfers are an asset to any golf club.
21st Centruy indeed... here's a question, should ladies be teeing off from the same tees as their male counterparts...

Very pertinent question regarding Men/Women's tee position.
It is a "gender" base calculation, so unless men are women and women are men, the tee positions will be different. This is why professionals never compete in mixed competitions......
That is the best I can explain in my limited knowledge of the English language. Hope it makes sense.
Vive la difference

Hi Steve
The way I see it...if my handicap was realigned to playing off the mens comp tees, the standard scratch and par were adjusted, then I'd be happy to tee off from the same tees.
What do you think?

personally speaking, I think too much fuss has been made about this by women, (and some men).
Please don't get me wrong, I agree with equality between the sexes, but whilst there are clubs that allow only women members, I find it wrong to single out men only clubs as being sexist.
It does not mean that ladies are not allowed on the course used, simply that they are not allowed to be members of 1 club. Yet sexism is being claimed, but I see no women complaining about a gym or other venue only allowing women members.

Hi Andy - just as a matter of interest, what gym or any other venues only allow women members? Not being confrontial or funny at all - but jut couldn't think of an establishment that you have to be female to join - in the sporting world....!! Penny

There is at least 1 gym in the Basildon area allowing only women.
I am not sexist in case this is your point, I am for equality. The fact is that we will never achieve equality, as there are men who refuse it and women that only want equality in areas where women are less equal, and no change where women have the advantage.

Hi Andy - thanks for your reply - and no,no - I was deffo not implying you were sexist! Not at all....!! It was interesting - no men allowed in a gym in Basildon...??!! How unusual is that!! I have a gym in a spa i belong to in Bagshot.- and both sexes are welcome! I have a very strong view about women in golf clubs- but would never, ever print it here....!!!!! LOL!!! Penny

Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden Penny ;-)
and yes I know that was never how the name golf came about, but I presumed it to be funny in advance.
personally, I think there should be places where women do not have to endure men and their behaviours, and likewise with men. And of course places where they mingle being the vast majority
