Was expecting to read about one of our golfing chums, I'm actually quite relieved

Oh no.......although I too am relieved that it is not news of the loss of one of our members.

Austin Lodge was the first UK course I played on and where I first took my lessons.  It's a great course.

Why is it closing?

Word is that the course is going to be recoverted back for farming. A couple of members guested recently at Cherry Lodge to check us out. Apparently Austin Lodge offered their members membership at Woodlands Manor for the unexpired period of their green fees year. Many are not happy about that. Regards  Michael.

Advertised on Right Move - the land (of outstanding natural beauty - including the golf course) was advertised for sale - with headline planning permission to restore to agricultural use BUT

Sporting and Mineral Rights: The sporting and mineral rights, in so far as they are owned, are included in the sale.

If someone wants to buy and then run the Golf Course - it may still remain...

As far as I can surmise there are no grants available for single farm conversion, so who knows.

Shame though, but then again perhaps for the best...
