There has been lots of condemnation of the R&A for selling The Open to Sky. Whilst I understand this, I support the decision.
The BBC haven't supported golf for a while. There used to be more tournaments shown when they only had two channels. I remember watching the match play and PGA from Wentworth and tournaments at Woburn on BBC. The Open has the most 'brand appeal' but it needn't be that or nothing to generate interest. I don't think that children understand things in that way.
So I think that given this lack of support, taking the £75m over five years from Sky makes sense. They can do a lot with that money. What do you think?

I have to agree John. The BEEP have used golf like a minority support, cherry picking what they show.
Going totally over to Sky seems to be how golf is going.
I watch much of my golf on U Tube to be honest, mainly practise tips and highlights of current tournaments.
I do have Sky go if I get the chance to watch a few holes from a top event.
Sport on terrestial channels is almost gone, the days of World of Sport & Grandstand are just a distant memory.
