It is with deep regret I report the passing of one of the "Epping Bandits", Russell Gambrill this morning 4th March. Russell lost his brave battle agaist an aggresive pancreatic and liver cancer. He passed away peacfully in hospital. He will be sadly missed by many who knew him. We offer our deepest sympathies to his family.

Hi David,
I am so sorry to read this news, I only spoke to him a few weeks ago. He was very candid with me about his illness but I had no idea it was so aggresive. Russ was always a lot of fun to play with and a real supporter of TSG. I am very sad to hear of his passing....
Please pass on our condolences to his family.

Swore every other word, wore outrageous trousers, loved his golf and was great fun to play with. Will miss him enormously.
Enjoy the big golf course in the sky Russ !!!!!

I shall always have fond memories of Russsell, and his smile when he par'd a long par 5 hole was enough to brighten even the dullest day. Yes language almost as colourful as his trousers but he had a good word for most and a repertoire of humour that bought a laugh in most situations. I remember Cheshunt Park golf (7th Hole) and after 6 holes of dubious distinction - when he couldn't put a thing... A large Crow swooped onto his Trolley, unzipped a pocket and stole chocolate, before zipping the bag back up. Russell - somewhat, aggrieved let fly with a torrent of verbiosity - and aimed his putter in a 'Rory McIlrory like fashion' at the thieving bird.. needless to say he missed and managed to bend his putter in the process. Strangely though Russell began to make every putt from then on in..
Anyway - Epping bandits will no doubt raise a glass and a Bacon and Marmalade Sandwich at the Puddleduck Cafe... A fond farewell to a decent bloke...

Russell will never be forgotten, it was always a pleasure and enjoyable to play with him,too many stories to tell, but my favourite was on the par 3 18th at Darenth, when after a poor tee shot he shanked the next towards the club house where the bride and family were having photos. R.I..P

Didn't know Russ for too long but I thoroughly enjoyed his company whenever the Bandits met. A thoroughly decent geezer, and one who will be dearly missed. RIP mate, and Godbless.
