Hi all,
I was driving back from a superb golf event on Saturday, run by a friendly bunch of 20 something's at Sunningdale Heath GC and the drive home got me to thinking about how I got into golf, when I started and who inspired me to take up the game?
MY first memory of swinging a golf club was when my 3rd year Junior School Teacher (circa. 1976) Mr.Sier, brought in some clubs for our weekly sports lesson and took us off to the playing fields opposite the school and demonstarted the fundamentals of the game to a mostly disinterested bunch of 9-10 year old kids.
However, I was instantly hooked and from then on, spent nearly every Saturday I could at the local park or if I could afford it the local municipal golf course (and still one of the niceist council courses in Essex) Hartswood GC (Proshop staff issues aside!).
Of course, by the time I reached sixteen I was distracted by music, fashion and the opposite sex and as such, like many, was lost to the game until my early 30's.
However, I'd like to thank Mr.Sier for inspiring me, not sure what I would be doing with my weekends now without golf!
This led me to wonder how other TSGers got into the game and who was your inspiration?
