I am noticing that the deals we have all had in the past appear to have disappeared.
Some like Redbourn are running the same price structure as previous years, but others - Batchwood, Windmill Hill and Three Locks have upped prices.
In the short term I think it's understandable (it's not a huge increase) but what will happen when we get back to 4 balls? It may be some of the weaker businesses will fold, but it may be we will have to pay that bit more.
Someone I play with on a semi regular basis always says he won't pay more than £25 (I've heard it said here as well), but that has been said for the past 10 years!
There may be a few people that are going to have to realise prices will have to rise, as it's no good living on past outdated price structures - conversly there are a number of clubs that may have (will have) to realise they are not as 'Premier' as they thought and will have to down grade prices to stay in business!
Any thoughts?

Played Toothill the other day, now pay and play, absolutely rammed out for at least the next few weeks, 22.50 weekdays and 35 at weekend, i reckon that with 8mins between tee times and all times booked between 7 and 5, they will bring in 3375 every weekday and 5250 at weekends, so over 27k a week, not bad work if you can get it.

I think given the circumstances you can understand courses both looking for cash through the tills and not offering discounts. This will probably have to stay this way certainly for weekend t times for the next year until 4 balls are allowed, and the clubs can reopen bars and an restaurants. If it keeps the clubs in business and they dont rip off golfers I think this will be ok for now and most golfers will be understanding.
Longer-term (12-18 months) I suspect the deals will return as the availability of golf T times increase, providing 4 balls are allowed again. We are in a supply vs demand situation now with 2 ball tee times only which clearly limits income for clubs, limited supply will always increase green fees. However clubs need to be sensible with pricing and should avoid excessive green fees, as if they dont it will harm them in the long run once more T time availablity returns.
Once most people can return to work tee time availability during weekdays I'm sure will increase and so will the deals, lets hope thats sooner rather than later...

I think Gary it depends on the area.
Down my way, we’ve had a few clubs clubs closed down, Waterhall and Hassocks. I think Hollingbury and Hayward’s Heath are under review.
Both Singinghills and Mid Sussex we’re closed for around 4/5 months due to the bad winter and then the virus.
I’ve heard my club “The Dyke“ are now going to start charging £300 joining fees. Before as an incentive, you could join as a winter member at a cheap rate and end up getting 18 months for the price of 12.

Just looked at Warley (had an email) and Saturday / Sunday between 7am and 12noon is £50 - They are never worth that much money! And looks as though between 8am and 12noon on a Monday is now £30

I think that is either a marketing ploy, or an attempt at a pricing model which has not worked out for them. If you look now the £50 tee times are now benig advertised at a 'discounted' price of £30 for the weekend and £22.50 weekdays.
People may want to play, however I dont think they will pay those prices for an avearge golf course.

South Essex are no longer part of Crown, and the Crown deal is finishing shortly. Is their still a deal at Redbourn? And what about Warley? (sorry Ian!!)

Hi Chaps,
Funnily enough, we are just reviewing our Partner Club deals as we speak but I can tell you we still receive Members Guest rates at Crown Clubs, but they are no longer an official site partner and as such, we no longer receive a free round of golf for every PRO member.
With regards South Essex, yes, they have been sold by Crown but we are talking to them regards being maintained as one of our Partner clubs.

I do think some clubs are pushing it though. Bletchingleynear South Goldstone I've played for years. Usually around£20, or just under. Online, they wanted £45 !! That's more than double. Puts you off ever going there

Yeah sad to see some profiteering going on but then they've missed out on early spring revenue.
Played Risebridge yesterday for £17, it's in great condition all things considered. Yet Warley Park, just up the road really, are asking £45 where it would have normally been £22.50.

Out of interest, just checked Redbourn and its £40 to £45. That was the headline price before this all started. Only difference is that reductions as the day wears on have disappeared, but we were letting next to no visitors on til tomorrow. Am sure as time moves on, we will have reductions in fees as it gets later in the day.

Bletchingly £35 possibly, but not £45 and zero clubhouse!. No way is that warranted considering how poor some areas of the course are - not sure I'll be back that quick. Blimey payed £25 at municipal Rookwood (Horsham) which was as good a condition. Gatton Manor near Dorking is in a beautiful and peaceful setting and they are max £35 - best looking opening hole as far as I'm concerned.

I may get this deleted by the editor again (???!!!????) But I think it's fair to pay good money if the course is in top condition and a good club...I'd rather spend £50 for a round at a really nice course in great nick than £20 for a rubbish course not looked after.
I guess every business has to make its money but I don't agree with them charging the earth. It'll hopefully settle now the 4 balls are back.
TSG was a fair £20 when I joined (maybe less)....not sure now

Yep, TSG was just £19.99, 10 years ago. Must say many courses are charging more than they should be, but if they don't they will join the statistics that have closed over the same 10 years. Once things sort themselves out (providing the morons who can't be bothered to stay apart don't spoil it), I'd guess prices will steady down. If prices don't drop a little it will be because the clubs that close were running a poor business strategy.
(My subs 10 yeras ago at Redbourn were around £750 - £800, they are now £1200)
