This year has been unprecedented and wiped out 3 months of the season in addition to the dreadful weather we endured pre-lockdown.
Was just intrigued to know how people approach the TSG events other than social 4 balls
Are players just glad to be playing or do they arrive at the TSG events with the desire to win or at least feature in the prizes.
I will start the ball rolling:
I couldn't imagine turning up at a Major Event without thinking that I want to win!!
I should add that it won't actually happen often but the desire is always there.
Too often I have heard it's just the taking part that counts and just wondered what people's views were??

It's the taking part everytime, BUT, still want to win. If it was all about winning I think most social golfers would have given up years ago.

You only have to look at the length of gimmes to see how competitive people are feeling on the day! Fun days golf? Gimmes around a putter length happen often. You want to play a match? Maximum length putter GRIP - if you are lucky! TSG Open - no gimmes.

And yes it is the taking part that matters......... But I still want to beat you!

Not ultra-competitive me John but certainly like to play consistent and play to my potential, win, lose or draw.

We had a round at Top Meadow on Friday, lovely course and friendly helpful staff, however, the greens were mega fluffy, akin to being on a thick Axminster carpet. This left a lot of short putts that were missed due to them being just a few inches too short. Tomorrow at Toot Hill the greens will probably be polar opposite. Generally, in normal friendly play, I’m happy to give a gimme if the falls within a dustbin lid. Fridays game and tomorrows proves to me that giving putts of a whole length of a putter is very generous, saw to many missed at Top Meadow and expect we’ll see lots missed of that length tomorrow too.

I get the bit of gimme’s of the putters grip length though.

Happy golf.

I do try to play my best at every opportunity, if that proves to be good enough to win then so be it. As long as I give my best I am usually content with the outcome. I do enjoy winning but accept that there are times when others play better. Good luck to them... Tsg events, should always be putting out... Gimmes reserved for social occasions and match plays...
