Hi. Just saying hello! I'm a complete beginner and really have caught the bug. I caught it in Thailand in January! Oh hang on, that doesn't sound right. I caught the golf bug in Thailand (just to be clear)!
I've been practicing on the range quite a bit and am ready (I think) for a few rounds.
I'd love to join in with a few games but I don't want to hold anyone up. Have to admit, I'm a bit nervous about that. I'm a London cabby and we're known to be a bit gobby- but I really don't want to annoy anyone out there.
Is there anyone else out there in the same boat as me? Maybe we can have a round together before joining in with the experienced guys?
Or shall I just put my name down for a game and hope I don't get stabbed before the 18th?
Any advice is gratefully recieved. I'm off to Thailand again as soon as possible and really love the courses out there.
Hope everyone is safe and well. Rosh.

Hi Roshan, welcome onboard. Starting out in this sport can be very daunting, especially if you start on a challenging course with good players.
I started back in 2007, I played once a month in a society. I slowly improved but it was only when I joined a club and played a lot more did my golf really start to improve. TSG did not exist then, if it had I might have chosen a different route.
I would invest in starter lessons with a professional you like. If you don’t enjoy the lesson change the coach. During the evenings coaches often hold sessions out on the course. This will fast track you and you won’t get into bad habits.
Try to find a nine hole course that’s not to challenging, that will build your confidence.  Good luck and all the best!  Enjoy and have fun!!

Thanks for the reply Paul. I'm having lessons as you suggest. And currently enjoying slicing the ball 9 out of 10 times 😫

 Hi Roshan,

I've been playing 34 years and still slice the ball 9 out 10 times. Don't worry about that. Learn to embrace those things and play them to your advantage. I'm down to a 16 handicap doing that.

Join games, Roshan, sooner the better, golf's about making new friends and finding a new social outlet.

I love this sight and have made many new golfing buddies and played some great courses along the way.

Happy Golfing !!

Hi mate
I am in the same boat so defo up for a game. I joined one game, told the guys at the start I was new to it and it went really well -  picked up a few tips on my swing and also some helpful etiquette tips around the course.. ( like dont talk when someone is about to tee-off..haha:).  I'm in SE London so drop me a line and will sort a game out..

Hi gents. Another beginner here. Still just at the driving range practicing with 3 clubs. Going to pick up a package set at the end of October, and will be looking at attempting a round soon. Still got a bit more work to do before I get out there....

I'm down in Sutton, so if you guys organise anything let me know.

Steve

Hi John. Thanks for the message...yeah think I'll definitely do that. Just need a couple of more weeks to be hitting the ball a bit better before I dive in. Started recording my swings now and seeing where I need to improve between lessons so starting to make much better progress!

Hay Roshan

I joined TSG in July on 28 handicap, when i first thought about going out with strangers i was extremely nervous as well. Dreading making a fool of myself. I needn't have been, 99% of the guys I've met thus far are all cracking lads and have made feel nothing but welcome and i now feel part of the group. I play every week and whether i play well or play poorly i always feel as if I've had a great time with old friends and by old i don't mean aged 🤣🤣🤣. Love TSG

 Hi,
I would just say join a game and go have fun, for me it's not even about the golf. It's going out there and enjoying other people's company for a few hours.
