In my opinion I note that one or two TSG members repeatedly stir up issues over handicaps...

If you are not a club player with a handicap assigned by Congu or soon to be World Handicap System and neither a society registered with the WHS as at 2 November 2020  then your handicap will be whatever the society determines it is.

If you are a low handicap player then you have proven you can play the game to a reasonable standard.

That said there appear to be some members who make comments about not playing in competitions with TSG as they may feel that they would come up against supposed society bandits.

Well guess what? Societies have carried this stigma for years and it will never change while players of all abilities do not submit all their cards to reflect current performance.

It's a game of honesty and integrity and only works if those principals are adhered to.
There are lots of players who do and some who don't and that's societies for you.

If players submit cards and play honestly the system works!!

 Couldn't agree more Greg
If people want to moan then they're going to moan.

Having played only sporadically for most of my life yet loving the game since childhood, I have always thought of the game of golf as being an honourable game, played with integrity and a wish to do the right thing to and for the game. Now that i have the opportunity to play more, these thoughts shine even brighter. Having never been a member of any club and never playing enough to need a handicap mark, this was never an issue. Now however I am keen to see what my true level is, just for myself. I adore playing the game and although i will remain a nomadic golfer(within TSG), i find it hughly enjoyable to test myself against naturally better players and a true hcp mark may level the playing field a tad and allow me to continue to enjoy this wonderful sport which is so full of wonderful people.

I don't see what the point you were trying to make was?

I play sociably for fun and personally, I only play myself even if I may have a "bet for drinks" or something....

I play competition golf at my club and that's when I take it seriously....but unless it's matchplay, I'm only after beating my best...

I have only ever said that I wouldn't join a TSG comp and waste time / money driving god knows where to meet halfway and stand no chance...I don't personally see that as fun...

I'd rather play a course I like with people I get on with....
