I think I made history on the TSG........
I had my 1st game with the new World Handicap System, taking my portable index to Cottesmore golf course, the Griffin.
The only thing was that lots of holes had the White/Yellow/Red tees together , so my score
cannot count towards my "20" games.
Anyhow, the game was a lot of fun with the well known TSGer Paul S. as he suggested we play Bingo, Bango, Bongo, we changed the name to Bish, Bash, Bosh.......easier to pronounce & remember.
Tomorrow, doing another round on the Phoenix course with my "portable handicap".
The End......

Brigitte...it can count
The course should supply at request the rating for the day...which means your score can be added that way
I played my course 2nd 3rd 4th and same as you, some of the white tees were nearer the yellow plates....so the course day rating (or whatever they call it) was lower but still able to enter the card

Thank you Gary for your useful
information. Glad to learn you are clued up with the new WHS & you commented.
Yes I am aware of the "day rating " but the Proshop in question was not that helpful, it was very busy before the lockdown as everyone wanted to play golf.
Anyway, had I had the rating for the day , I couldn't have entered my score on TSG as they are not geared for the WHS yet.
Also, I believe one has to register the game before you actually go out to play . There should be an App for that but I cannot find it.
Maybe you can throw some light on my last point.
Thanks Gary
Brigitte

You could kind of enter it in here still...
If you have adjusted your handicap based on the course guide then that reflects your score....e.g. if you play an easy course your handicap will be lower...
On here, what you could do is adjust the score you enter accordingly....so if you played off 20 and the course guide said that 20 handicappers play off 18....then when you enter your score on here, reduce your score by 2 shots somewhere...so if you had 36 points off 20 enter it as 34 points...
Equally, if the course rating for that day says that it was harder than normal by 1 shot then add a shot back to make it 35
Playing handicap Vs course "handicap" or rating = +/- ?
Difference between that and your TSG handicap = +/- ?
Course rating Vs day rating = +/- ?
The 3 question marks then tell you what to add or minus from your round
Example...my handicap index is 10.6
Royal Ascot whites says I play off 12
Say the course day rating was 1 shot harder today and I shot 30 PTS on my TSG 11 handicap when I enter it
+1 shot due course rating
+1 due to day adjustment
I could enter it as 32 PTS to reflect the true figure
Does that make sense?
Really, all TSG need is to add 2 more boxes to the "enter scorecard" bit that has "playing handicap" and "day adjustment"
The difficulty comes in the 8/20 calculation but as it's just an average, a pen, paper and quick maths solves that lol

However, until you know your base handicap, you could just keep entering it under the old system which works fine!😂

just a few facts, here in portugal they are started the new world h/c, when i returned, i found my h/c had gone up from 9.3 to 10.1 and this on the yellow slope gave me 12 shots, I have now played 20 game from 12th oct, to now 7th nov at vila sol so its time to check how my h/c on the tsg and this is what i found.
games played 3 at 10 over, 2 at 11, 2 at12, 7 at 13, 5 at 14, 0 at 15, 1 at 16 over, so the best 8 from 20 gives a h/c 11.125, my tsg h/c is 10.4 , over this 20 games my best score 10 over, highest 16 over so this both the world h/c and the tsg h/c are about right, well thats the case for me , i was chatting to DJ. the other day , he said why do i bother to play, my score will be the same give or take!! and its true i am a 68 year old man and i will score in the 80s when playing on a hard course ( vila sol) so i can only hope i can do this for a few more years, but the most inportant i still enjoy golf

I think the new system really only matters when you play away from your "home"
Rather than walk off an easy course with 36 pta thinking you played well....or off a tough track with 32 thinking you didn't, now you can benchmark better and see how you did...

Sorry Gary, the above statement is not right. The WHS will effect you at home as well.
If on a particular day, the weather is fine and everybody who submits a card with a decent score, this will effect how your score is calculated on the index.
In reverse if the conditions are tough and everybody who submits a card shoots high scores, then your handicap index will reflect that.
Remember, it is how the course is playing on that particular day, not just you or your group.
You can gauge this by following your handicap at England Golf.
I hope that helps?
Paul
