Looking for some advice ..I have just restarted playing reguarly after a lot of years off and just playing one weekend a year. I have some pretty old woods 3 wood ( Taylor Made system 2 midsize) 5 and 7 Dunlop woods (dont laugh!) , cannot get away with the 3 wood at all but the 5/7 woods  I hit pretty well most of the time and my irons are 4-pw.

Is it worth maybe just replacing the 5 and 7 woods with newer models or perhaps hybrids and just leave the 3 wood out of the bag and possibly get a 9 wood or hybrid  instead of 4 iron, or perhaps get a 4 wood rather than using the 3 and 5 so I can slot another wedge into my bag?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

I would suggest finding a good golf outlet with clubs you can use on site to discover what might suit you best.  I find hybrids easier to hit in most situations although I have found woods that work 1,3 and 5.

Do try hybrids though... And remember it is whatever works for you is best.

Cheers there is an American Golf Centre about 5 mins away and have clubs on site (bought a new driver there last week) ,I was thinking about just going with a 5 and 7 wood or hybrid version and dropping my 3 wood and 4 iron possibly and putting another wedge in.

All depends on how you play. Personally I have driver, 3 and 5 woods, and 5 hybrids, most of my shorter work I make do with irons from 7 to sand. I had tried more wedges but I can manage without..

If you try lob or gap wedges to control distance on approaches that works as well.

Thanks - I hit a range of clubs at the shop 3/5/7 woods and hybrids ..Taylor Made/Ping and Cobra RadSpeed - The Cobra RadSpeed hybrids worked best for me so I bought a 4 & 5 hybrid so that should allow me some extra wedges as well if I can dump my 5/7 woods and 4/5 irons possibly.
