Dear TSGers,
The site will be down briefly while we make some important new updates to the handicap system.
Once live again, there will be an additional short delay while we transfer your scorecards from the old Handicap system to the new.
Rest assured, normal service will resume shortly...

Dear TSGers,
Further to our email last week, we are very pleased to announce that after months and months of planning, the NEW TSG Handicap Index has been launched and is now LIVE!
However, due to sheer no. of a scorecards submitted over the years, this upgrade has been done, in ‘laymen’s’ terms, in two parts:
- Upload the new Handicap Index formula and formatting to the site (completed)
- Uploading of the scorecards (still running)
The good news, the first part was completed at 2pm today.
Meanwhile, part two is still running and will run until midnight (hopefully sooner).
As such, you may see your handicap update several times over the next few hours!
So, please be patient.
Also, we have already had a few bugs reported by you (all cosmetic) e.g., Double Bogeys on scorecards are currently showing as ‘Others’, this will be changed in due course.
In addition, if the SLOPE & RATING at any one course has not been entered on the site, your scorecard enter will not show or be included in your Handicap Index (we are addressing how we highlight this to members already too!)
Finally, once we are confident everything is uploaded correctly, we will send out an additional notification out-lining how the new calculation works and how the data entered will be calculated.
We hope you like it as much as we do!
Ian, Adam & The TSG Team

Your handicap is going to change a lot more often than before, and it won't go down by a chunk and then take umpteen games to get back to where it should really be. You can see which score is going to 'drop off' the system by checking what is just 'above the line'.
Question I have to ask, is who is going to play the course handicap and who is going to say 'to hell with it' and play whats on top of this page?
For your handicap, it doesn't matter how you do it, as by putting the score in it will automatically update.
BTW, you will need to hunt a bit for your points - open the game you want to know about, as it is not on the handicap bit.

Well spotted Mr Barber!
Just one of the 'cosmetic' changes we will be adding later in TSG Handicap Index 2.0 (currently planned for Dec/Jan).
Ps Double Bogey colour issue on Scorecards...fixed.

I hope everyone will use there adjusted h/c on each course, as this is the point of it!!!! it is simple you will find a chart at each course, look up your h/c and it will tell your your playing h/c on that course , i played stapleford abbotts yesterday my h/c went up to 10 from 8, when you play easy courses your playing h/c will be lower, as it is only your last 20 games that count, not sure why the tsg needs to up load all your old scores, as this is a rolling 20 games system why not just drop the others? maybe there is a reason , anyway what ever, its up and running, i hope we all use it when we play roger

hi all
As I see it the updated system has archived my playing history, including those scores that I had excluded for handicap reasons, and replaced it with a history of all scores since 2018.
The 20 most recent scores used for handicap assessment are underlined and the 8 qualifying scores are indicated by green dots though not as prominently as the England Golf version! This now resembles the England Golf WHS dashboard to a great degree!
From now on if members input all, if not most of their rounds scores, the given handicap might be regarded as indicative of their playing level, but unless the scores have been properly completed and attested to, their application in competitions is contestable!
As someone who is a golf club member with an England Golf CDH number and official WHS based index on certified competition scores or pre-registered casual rounds, (much more than was the minimum number of annual qualifying cards under the old system), much of my golf rounds are unattested and not entered in England Golf, but are entered in TSG, therefore there will ever be a difference between the two systems!
I will regard my official WHS index as the primary indication of handicap but will adjust to the nature of games I join/play!

Do we still get an exceptional cut for over 40 points on this new system? Is Risebridge, Epping and Cranham still excluded from the leader board ?

When you play easier courses this should be reflected in the slope rating, an easier course means you should receive less strokes, a harder course you will receive more strokes. There should be no need to for additional cuts, however the handicap committee reserve the right to do so if required. This is the same for WHS.

Hi DJ,
We have not included the new version of the Exceptional Play Cut in the TSG Handicap Index calculation yet. We will look to include this in due course. The same goes for the short courses. However, in principle, they should all be eligible, but we will review this in the coming weeks.
So far, so good. Only x5 reported errors, and two of them were due to Par 3 courses not being eligible and the other two due to SLOPE & RATING data errors on scorecards.
For those that are not familiar with the WHS calculation, we plan to send out a guide to members next week.
In the meantime, if any one has any immediate questions, please email us at theteam@thesocialgolfer.com

I'd like to answere two points here.
Roger - 'not sure why TSG need to load all the scores', I think that's simple, we all like to know how we've done, and also like to go nosing at other people's scores!
Michael - 'I will regard my official WHS index as the primary indication of handicap' - yes it is the recognised handicap, but if you turn up at the majority of the less snooty courses and show them your TSG handicap on your phone, they will most likely accept it. And further, yes the WHS is the 'legitimate', but as long as we are honest with our TSG scoring (ie, no 4ft gimme's), the TSG is the most accurate as it includes everything (except Pedham Par 3 etc).
My TSG handicap is currently 15.7, but my WHS is 16.7. I play off TSG on any of it's games, but all comps at my course are off WHS. In theory I should play everything off of the lowest, but because England Golf don't get a wadge of money from TSG (meaning an extra £40 each from us) it doesn't happen as they don't recognise the TSG one.

john, i hope the scores will be on the site so as you say can have a nose round, but only for recent scores like the last 20 but its not there at the moment, most peoples score are not showing after 9th sept, also the history of scores at golf clubs seem to have gone or show inacurate facts, i was hoping give it time this will all be sorted, but not so far, one problem that seems to be there, the lack of low slope courses, friday we played risebridge, dj 47 points, ken 41, me 38 or 39, have talked to members there and they agree the slope is to high, i gained a shot!!!!! asyou know this course you should loss shots, so i looked at lots of courses that we play, they are nearly all above the 113 which is what is used for h/c base, so every were we play you gain shots even on easy courses like risebridge, now this has nothing to do with the tsg, but its not helping, still there was problems before, hence having to ban courses i only hope one day it gets better roger
