With the number of golf shops offering custom fitting I'm very surprised that none of them havecome up with the idea of having a custom fit passport.

They could charge £10 or so for one.

You go in and have the full custom fit programme, but instead of buying some clubs at the end of it, they give you a passport with all your details on it.

Then, when you are ready to buy some clubs you can just produce this passport and they will know roughly what setup your clubs need.

When I purchased my clubs they did the full custom fit but wouldn't allow me to take any of the measurements with me.  This was to stop me going to another shop/online to buy my clubs.

But I think the time has come where shops should let you go in and have all your swing measurements taken and then give you the results.

What do you think?

I think your passport idea is spot on Russ.

I too have recently made the trip to my local driving range to have my clubs custom fitted and must say that the whole process was a joy. But as you have mentioned when it comes down to passing on the results they were not willing to do so for fear they would lose the business elsewhere.

Kind of funny really when you think about it as they offered a price match guarantee.

Coming away slightly from your passport topic, does anyone else think that it’s about time there was a little more transparency when it comes to the pricing of beloved golf equipment?

I have recently fallen victim to such an incident which involved my local Nevada Bob’s in Glasgow where I purchased a Cleveland CG12 DSG wedge for around £90.00 only to find that the same wedge from the same company albeit online was some £10.00 cheaper even taking into account postage and packing. When I queried it with the Glasgow branch it became clear that each store and for that matter the online part of the business is franchised thus giving each operation cart blanch to charge what they wanted.

Now it was only a difference of something like £10.00 odds, but I could not understand how a company like Nevada Bob could have such a pricing policy that allows its own stores to compete against each another in this way.

From that day on I made a promise to myself never to purchase anything from this supplier again on the principal of the above.

Anyone else had a similar experience when purchasing equipment.

Kind Regards
