I received an e-mail from my golf club on Saturday saying that they would be opening the Priors course on Sunday, it was clear of most of the snow but very wet.

So I played there this afternoon.

When I arrived you could see the odd bits of snow but it looked no worse than before the snow came.

I managed a steady par on the first hole, a par 5.  Then I had 155 yards to the centre of the par 3 second hole.  I took an extra club and hit a good 6 iron onto the green leaving the ball about 7 feet from the pin.  A good putt saw me getting me birdie.  This was great for me as I had with me my daughter, Samantha, she is 7 and decided that she wanted to come and see me play golf.

Then onto the par 5 third hole.  Another decent drive and a good 5 iron left me plum in the middle of the fairway, with only 83 yards to the center of the green.  I took a full 53 degree wedge but hit a pull hook!

When I got upto the green, which is above you I could not believe what I saw!  The green was covered in snow, still about half an inch deep!

If I had paid to play here I would have wanted my money back.

The front left part of the green had been in the sun so was grass.  Now why had nobody moved the hole to this part of the green?  Somebody had also cleared a path from the front of the green to the hole, about a yard wide!  So was I supposed to hit my ball onto the green and then move my ball onto this path?  If I was then I didn't know!

I then played the rest of the course and it was fine, so why was this one green not cleared of snow?

The worse thing was that on the e-mail I had from the club they stated that they had cleared six holes on the other course so that they could be used!  So if they had done this why didn't they send somebody over to the Priors to clear this one green?

I'll be speaking to the course manager this week and I'll be asking him about this.

Have you had anything similar to this happen at your course?

just come back from norway........... trust me snow in scandanavia is a lot sexier than ours!!!!!!!!!!! from clearing bergen runway........to the streets and pavements all were immaculate and the golf....... whilst you had to accept the fairways were snowed........ red and blackballs were available rubber tees available for aproaches if on fairway and greens totally clear...

not quite pebble beach or royal melbourne but quite memorable and some good piccies for next book... bet in summer fab....... if not a bit outrageous on he pocket... you could pay a tenner a pint.... but like a good northerner i did find some cheaper albeit not much places for liquid refreshment. golfing in the fjords is someexperience though!!!!!!!!!
