I have Virgin Media using cable.

We have Setanta Sports and I do enjoy watching the USPGA games, and the fact that they are live is even better.

Now I know I can add Sky Sports to my package but had never looked into the cost.

Well I had a quick look the other day and they want £25 a month for Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3!

So that is £300 a year for this.

All I want to watch is the European Tour golf, I'm not bothered about anything else.

I don't even want the three channels, just Sky Sports 1 would do, but guess what?  You can't do that, you have to pay for the whole package.

Oh well, back to the USPGS golf then.....

I used to have Sky Sports and was irritated by the fact that they charge individually for Sky Sports 1 and/or Sky Sports 2 as separate channels (giving you Sky Sports 3 'free' if you subscribe to BOTH the others) but then spread the golf & the Premiership football across both channels (so if you want the golf but not the football you still have to have to pay for both channels !!).

Then they lost half the football and all the US Tour golf (leaving them with the Euro Pro Tour & Seniors Tour Golf)  but they still charged the same for their subscription!!

So I phoned to cancel it. But they don't want you cancelling in because it looks bad on their subscriber numbers on which they base their advertising rates and their city share price. So they offered to give me both Sky Sports channels for £2 per month for 6 months whilst I 'reconsiderded'.  I took their offer and then cancelled again after the six month period was up (they wouldn't continue the offer - I guess they gave up on me).

Would I pay to rejoin at the money they want?  Not a chance, just have a look in the TV guides or use their own onscreen programme guide to see what they offer - nothing!

Pete, you are correct.

The way they move sports across the channels is purely designed to make people pay for all the channels rather than just one.

When we had Sky we phoned to cancel and got the half price for six months, then we too cancelled!

When I played football I used to watch it but now I don't I hardly watch a match.  So the football is not a factor to me, I'm purely after the golf.

All I can do is wait and see what happens regarding special offers, etc.
