I've read somewhere that 85% of the world's golfers fade/slice a ball.

Do you know any interesting golf facts?

I'd like to know how many golfers in the world are scratch or better, also how many are single figure golfers, etc?

So have you heard/read any?

Russ

There are 235,000 "interesting golf facts" (no quotes) on Google compared to 5,320,000 on MSN Live and a staggering 25,300,000 on Yahoo !!!

If the Internet is to be believed :

- there are 336 dimples on a regulation golf ball
- golf was actually invented in Japan
- the longest putt in history was 140 feet 2 3/4 inches on the 18th at St.Andrews by Bob Cook on 1st Oct 1976
(what I want to know is who the feck had a 150 foot tape measure handy !!!)

Oh and Russell Middleton posts every question on at least 3 different  golf forums

Colin, the reason why I post on three different golf forums is that I cannot find a fourth one!

And I also don't want other people pinching my brilliant questions and posting them as their own!

Golf was invented in Japan?? WHAT?? I'm never believing what I read on the internet again. Everyone knows the home of golf is St Andrews.

Oh interesting fact.
At Pine valley in New Jersey it used to be a local bet that no one could beat 80 on their first time of playing. Until 1954 when amateur champ Arnold Palmer turned up, took the bet, scored 68 and walked away with enough money to get married.
