This program is on tonight think it will be intresting watching as 2 of the kids are golfers though some of you would like to watch
Cutting Edge: Trophy Kids

Channel 4, 9pm

The Times Preview:

Everyone wants to do the best for their children, but the difficulty is knowing what the best is. The parents in this film have no doubts whatsoever. Their children – a 12-year-old tennis player, two golfers aged 9 and 12 and a 15-year old boxer – are being trained to become world champions. The rest of their education becomes an irrelevance, and every moment of every day is spent nurturing their considerable talent.

It’s not a pleasant film to watch, because the training regimes are so relentless and the line between parental encouragement and mental cruelty is a thin one. Sometimes it feels as if their love is conditional; when the children fail to live up to expectations, the parents launch into a merciless attack on their shortcomings. But, as one father says: “I don’t know whether what I’m doing is right. What I do know is I’m trying to do what I think is best for her.” It’s difficult to argue with that.

I might just have to watch this Heather.

Recently I saw the programme about the Russian (I think!) weightlifting kid, very interesting.

Its this sort of thing that will put Children off their chosen sport, What I feel is that the child is made  to succeed to fulfill the parents  egos, and is not really what the child wants, and if pressure is exerted, then at some stage the child will give up
We must not forget that they are childern and as such should be enjoying their live's and having some fun.

I agree Roger, watched the program heard of Billy Sponer was told what his dad was like by one of boys dad at the Essex Golf Coaching he is a good player the other boy who is a golfer is not quite so good all his dad is intrested in is the money not even alowed out to play just in case he gets hurt what a life and what an horrid dad he is making his kid think he is better then he is when he starts to go into the better comps then he will get a shock. It makes me laugh when the dads where shouting at the kids when Nat plays and has a bad shot I just say never mind just think of the next shot its him who gets angrey with himself.

I watched the programme and it was very interesting to watch what these parents will do to make certain that their child is a winner.

What a life these four kids must have!

The one parent who had taken his boy out of school and had even turned his entire back garden into a golf practice area.

The other one was purely interested in how much money his kid was going to make, yet the boy hadn't even played in any recognised competition!

I think my daughter will be allowed to choose her sport(s) and allowed to develope at her own pace.
