i have just got 'back' into playing golf..................joined a small club near to where i work, sadly the club is VERY old old boys and not very friendly at all towards newcomers nor single hand players.
I am playing off 22 at this course, however i also play the occasional game on the PAYP courses.
Sadly i simply do not know any golfers in a similar position to enable me to play.

How do people go about finding partners for playing semi-competitive games?

Hi Mark,

Market Drayton in Shropshire is too far for me but TSG is as good a place as any (and better than most) to find golfing partners. You could try putting a game up on the system (it will automatically be notified to everyone in your local area) or you could do a member search of other golfers in your area (using the 'Members' menu option) and then send a few likely suspects a private message asking if they're up for a game.

Good luck.

Mark, that is the hardest part of the Game. Trying to "group up" up with others who are in the same skill level as well as provided some level of  concversation.  Try a couple of social things: after your round of golf, go for a "soda"  or sandwich at the club bar. I found this to be one of the best ways for people to know your name and face. The other thing which is a bit more difficult is to try to paired up with other singles going out to play. I have met alot of great people this way.

Hang it there.

Richard.

Hi Mark,
I felt so sorry for you when I read your post - but then realised that you didn't only have one hand after all. (Must try reading these posts when I'm fully awake)

Since you've already made the move to join the local club, could you not simply put a notice up in the Mens locker room, saying that you are new to the club, keen to become involved, and would appreciate a game with some of the other members?

Best of luck!

I read the bit about a 'Single hand' and immediately thought he had only one hand!

When I joined my club I asked in the office/pro shop if they could arrange some partners for me to get my handicap cards in.

They also had a list in the locker room where I added my name, to be honest nobody has ever phoned me using this list!

Once I had been there a while I got to know a few people so you might have to give is a bit of time.

Also, being a single figure handicap might put some people off playing with you!  It doesn't bother me because I'd just drag you down to my level, but other people might think you don't want to play with hackers!

Mark - You should make ever effort to enter as many competitions as possible. This is a great way to get yourself known to other club members and a good way of finding future partners for Fourball and Foursome competitions at your club.

I used this approach when I changed clubs last year and I now have a reasonable group of club members with whom I play on a friendly basis.

Give it a try and hope it works for you too.

Hi Mark,

Glad to hear that you have got both hands!

Sorry to hear that you are not a single figure handicap golfer!

All I can suggest Mark is to do as I said, ask in the office/pro shop as they will know the members who play on a regular basis and roughly what times they play.

Russ
