My firm are buying me a Sonnocaddie V300 Golf GPS System for 25 years service award........

Now I have never seen one in use but heard these things are good and legal but will I have to pay anything for course downloads or do I just switch it on "beam me up scotty" and let the satelite woks do the rest.....

Anybody use this kind of stuff that can give me an idea of what is in the box when I get it presented.....

Hi Robbie, the Sonnocaddie works the same as all the competitor GPS system ie the unit is capable of holding a few courses but if you're playing somewhere different you have to log onto their website and download the detail (if they have the course mapped!). The good news is that the Sonnocaddie is (apparently) one of the better ones...)

Well, I received my award and first impressions are very good....

Amazing how these things actually work - just hope my game starts to work just as well.........

I went the other way and bought a simple Callaway range finder (point it at something an it'll tell you the distance). It's proved extremely useful by stopping me going for shots where realistically I can't make the carry and judging the club on the approach shot (big greens can make a difference of two shots!). These things are a great innovation (like having your own personal caddy)
