How much do you pay for a bucket of balls? Hazlemere at Sunbury are now charging £3.50 for 50 yellow rubber puddings - scruffy mats, no decent tee pegs (which is considerably more than Duke's Meadow in Chiswick, where you stand a good chance of swinging a club alongside Time Henman - or once, Samuel L. Jackson - big hitter) Nearby, Sunbury are charging a fiver for 100 one piece Srixon's of auto tees - does anyone know an even bigger rip-off?

The last time I went to a driving range it was £6.60 for a large basket of balls (approx 120).

All the bays had quality mats and most of the bays had a large mirror behind it.

They also had a selection of tees for each bay.

Out on the range they had plenty of different targets to aim at.

This range is the one near the Moby Dick pub on the A12 in Romford, it has a large Direct Golf attached to it.

Last time I went to my local driving range (couple of months back) I was shocked to see that they'd put the price of 100 balls up to £6. I can't be sure but my feeling is that last year that price was £4.

Now that's what I call inflation when all they got to do is buy them, 'rent' them, pick them up, 'rent' them, pick them up, 'rent' them, pick them up...

dont worry lads with the credit crunch and the fact that no driving ranges or clubs seem to be willing to drop there prices people will end up priced out of the golf market and they will all be closed ...

been looking at memberships lately and they want to offer you the world ... but price stays the same

Ah but with the cost of club memberships it's the age old problem - they can't discount the annual subs or the existing members will feel hard done by so instead they waive the 'joining fee' then they start talking about 3 months free (remember can't reduce the annual subs - so give a 'free' trial) then they start talking about credits at the bar, soon they'll be talking about 'associate' memberships (with some minor differences between the new membership type and full membership again to keep the existing members happy).

Bad news for golf clubs (and a few will go down) but happy days for us punters me thinks.

I was at the Direct Golf range near the Moby Dick last night.

The cost of the range balls hasn't changed, still £6.60 for a large basket (120 balls), but they have now installed the automatic range mats.
