Spain is already full of golf resorts and more are being built all the time.  So, there is always a resort to suit everyone's requirements (on the coast, in the mountatins, easy course, championship class, other activities available, family oriented etc, etc).

The weather is generally pretty predictable so you would be unlucky to be completely rained off (in fact they'd probably appreciate a bit more rain!).

Arguably one of the best spots for golf in Spain is the Costa del Sol where there are nearly fifty courses over a fifty mile stretch of coastline.

The only downside of playing golf in Spain is that, I guess because it's so popular, you generally have to book well in advance and, often, the game is a five hour marathon (they don't seem to press slow players on as they do in other countries).

So, all in all, from my perspective Spain is a much better destination than the Algarve (too expensive), France (weather too unpredictable), Ireland (too expensive and weather unpredictable).

What do others think?  Have I missed somewhere worth considering?  Is Northern Portugal worth a look (perhaps around Lisbon)?

Went to Lisbon and found some of the best courses I have played, Quinta da marina being one of the best. We played in the week and it was millionaires golf with just us on the course (or it seemed like it). Stayed in a small fishing village and had a great time. Not too dear either.

Although I have spoken to a few people now who rave about Turkey. Its all inclusive and priced reasonable with a few courses about. Not been there myself though so perhaps someone who has would be better to add to the discussion.

Been looking at that southern most area of Spain for a few years but must admit have not been there.  There is a group of us who have been doing trips to Spain/Portugal/France for a few years now but I must admit I've become a little dissilusioned with Spain (too expensive, too busy etc) and the Algarve is a no no (farrrrrrrrrrr too busy and farrrrrrrrr too epensive - although up around Lisbon was superb with a capital s).  Currently France (around Rouen - St Saens) is a firm favourite so a new recomendation in Southern Spain would be good.  Advice?

Yes, I go with Brookie  - we also stayed at the Atlantico hotel, played 3 courses all within 30 mins drive (Castro marin, Benamor and another one I forget (cos I've just left the clubhouse and consumed too many pints - blame Bob The Putt). we found the courses very good and thought we were getting a good deal with Drivelinegolf. As it later transpired, we could  have got an even better deal by going though the hotel itself! Everything was very good value for money, and I found that a little Spanish and Portugese went a long, long way (you know - '4 beers please', and 'where are the toilets?' made lots of friends!) whereas a lot of French in France counted for sod all.

Ah but on our 'boys on tour' events we've got a secret weapon in that one of the guys is fluent in French - works wonders when ordering food & wine!  Perhaps as a consequence we're converted Francophiles and won't be turned (well won't be turned until the next 'special golf offer' to Spain/Portugal arrives in my in tray...).

The best trip I made would have to be Lisbon. No one on the courses and all excellent condidtion. We stayed in a little fishing village called cascais (probably not the correct spelling) all courses apart from Penna Longa were all local. No driving of an evening. Lots of little bars and restaurants within walking distance.

Now the flights are a bit boring for me so I agree with Pete. France is good and if the weather turns really bad you can just drive home.
