Hi All I am hoping there is someone with some advice for me for my trip to Malaysia in November. I am in Kuala Lumpur the weekend of 21/22 Nov '09 and want to play some golf. I will probably be staying in the Petaling Jaya area. Is there some TSG members that play the courses around here regularly? I am also either going to be in Penang or Singapore around the same time if there is anyone that play around here. Maybe hook up for a round?? Any replies appreciated. Thanks Tiaan

Tiaan Saujana Golf and Country Club is near to PJ. It was the host of the Malaysian Open (PGA tour event) earlier this year. Dont know whether you will need an official handicap certificate or whether a Society handicap will do but worth finding out if you want to play. KL GCC (host of 2010 Malaysian Open) is also close by but it used to be quite exclusive. There are a few courses around there but I have never played. Its always too hot!! If at all possible try and play during the week. Green fees are much cheaper at most courses Have fun!

Thanks Adrian. I am emailing the clubs around there for details etc but they are taking a while to get back to me. Hopefully there will be some TSG members over there to help me out as well. TIaan

A quick use of the Member Search shows that there are a few members in the area you're off to (about 50) so I don't understand why they haven't chipped in to give you a heads up on where to play - I'd do the same for members looking for advice on where to play in Kent (not a great holiday destination I know but I'd still give the advice!)

Hi Pete. Yes, I know. I used the member search and saw a few over there. I might see what happens if I mail one or two of them.

HI Tiaan, If you happen to be in SIngapore, the only reasonable price for a 18hole public course is Marina Bay. Cheers....

Then I fly to Singapore for the Sunday so now I am looking for somone to be just as helpful there.... Ian, I've had a look at your blog and it all seems great. RE. course reviews: message me what you look for and I will be happy to provide you with some feedback. Regards Tiaan -- 02/10/2009 10:32:39: post edited by Tiaan Kotze.

Hi, I simply look firstly at the ease a visitor can play............. then obviously the cost in relation to other courses in the area and comparative to states and uk.............. value for money is paramount....... beauty of the course is vitally important to me as his its history... I think the club house as important as course.....Its all about opinions, I am fortunate that I am paid to give mine, but in my next book, I would like to publicise other views as well. Send me a couple to look at, I would not edit or publish wihout implicit agreement. Ian www.thesocialgolfer.blogspot.com

Thanks to everyone who has contacted me and offered to arrange a game for me while I'm visiting KL and Singapore. As it stands I am playing Saujana G&CC in KL, Warren G&CC in Singapore and then back to KL for another round during the week. Looking forward. Tiaan

Hello Tiaan, I saw you played in KL recently. I'm stopping off in KL on the way to Manila in February and was hoping for a game. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Robin.

HI Robin. Golf in KL is excellent even though it was close to 35C and humid. I posted on the games section that I am in KL and looking for a game and got a few replies. They love golf in Malaysia and the people are very friendly and hospitable so someone based in KL will reply. There is very little chance of getting on a course on the weekend/public holidays as they are crammed full. Also, a lot of courses only allow members and members guests. Depending on where you are staying I can put you in touch with a couple of people I played with there. (Petaling Jaya and Bukit Bintang area). Message me you email and I will forward it on. Tiaan
