I love playing golf, but why oh why is weekend golf so expensive, now days does everyone work mon - fri 9-5, I have most sundays off but cant justify in paying double the price for golf for which i can use my 2-1 golf vouchers for half the price in midweek. Example Im not tight but cant manage to pay £35 for a society that is up here regulary on a sunday at pineridge when i can play here for £13 each using my 2-1 greenfee vouchers in midweek. Just thought i would moan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats a good point, its not has thou the golf course's change over night and turn into Wentworth etc...I like yourself can only play mostly at weekends unless i take a days holiday...So can anyone answer why we pay more for the same facillities over the weekend.

Ah, simply the laws of supply and demand... The vast majority of people work monday to friday. As a consequence the golf courses know they can fill the course on Saturday & Sunday and so the price they charge reflects that, whilst they struggle to fill the course monday to friday and so they have to offer discounts. The same situation prevails with the massive difference in cost between 5 and 7 day memberships - the premium is the cost of being able to play at the weekend. They know most of their 7 day members would love the option of a 'weekend only membership' but they can't offer that because they would have to admit that actually it's not much less than the cost of a full 7 day membership because most of their 7 day members only play at the weekend!

It's the classic 'Supply and demand' excuse for putting up your prices. During the week the course is empty so they lower the prices to get you to play. At a weekend the course is very busy, so they charge what they like. Have a look around your area there may be a couple of courses that have deals or offers at weekends. Russ

Just another thought with the bad weather coming what about being charged the full rate when you are having to play on temporally Tees & Greens I don't know of many course's that offer you a reduced rate then, be mid-week or weekends

During the winter months always ask before you pay if they are on temp tees/greens. If they say they are then ask for a discount, if they say no then walk away, it's as simple as that. If they don't answer you and you pay full price then you discover that you are on temp tees/greens you should go and ask for some money back. Russ

Most courses i have played during the winter months have a lower winter price and then goes up once our "so called" summer is upon us! As regards to weekend prices, its just common sense from the clubs point of view. I only play weekends and had the same problem, so i had a look around "i mean John had a look around" and we found a great deal, so we only now pay £50 a month for 7 day membership rather then the £100+ we was paying when going from club to club at weekends.

thanks for your replys guys, ok look at it this way for example, if you play traditions golf club in woking(which is not one of my favourite golf courses) using the 2-1 vouchers during the week would cost 2 people £10.50 each, if you play at weekends green fee is £31 each and most courses dont accept 2-1 vouchers at weekend. I understand supply and demand but this is what i cant get my head round, i love eating out at restaurants but very rarely eat out at weekends due to the fact of being too busy, so if restaurants operated this supply and demand system you could be paying 3 times as much for your chicken tikka masala in your local indian restaurant due to the fact that most people eat out at weekends. Im in the wrong business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
