As this is a golfing community it's fair to presume people join to keep up on golf news, join in the forums, watch the videos and get the opportunity to meet more people and play more golf. Currently we allow members to choose whether their Username or Real Name should be displayed to other members, but because TSG is a 'closed' golf community ie of individually verified members, it does make more sense for people to display their real name (whether that be 'Margaret', 'Maggie S' or 'Margaret Smith'). We will very soon be expanding the membership of TSG and, before we do, I'd like the existing members to tell me whether you think we should stop giving people the option to just show a Username. The obvious options are: 1/ Always display your First Name + Second Name to other members (eg 'Maggie' 'Smith') 2/ Always display your First Name but give you the option to say whether your Second Name should also be displayed (the problem with this is that if you don't allow display of your Second Name you run the risk of being 1 of 50 members named 'Paul' when someone tries to find you on a member search in your area!). 3/ Leave as is with about 40% of users only showing their Username eg Smity998... Any changes will affect you and the way you use your community, so please take the time to make your preference known (option 1, 2 or 3). I agree with what you say - but up until (today) when I had to reactivate my account due to a change in email address, I was not able to find a way to alter the screen name - this being something I 'inherited' from matchpractice.com

Happy with option 1 (it is the most flexible as you can put in just an intial for 2nd name if you want so you would get 'steve c')

Hi Pete, Definitely 1. Scrap "Screen Names" they are childish as well as a pain! We are as you say a "closed site" so whats wrong with putting your correct name down. Colin

I agree with Neil. It's a golf community so I don't see why you wouldn't give your name or the name you are generally known by and not 'wizard 993'. I think displaying the name field is the answer then people can put in 'pete'; or 'pete c'; or 'pete connon' or 'smithy' (if that's what everyone calls you). Is there anyone not in favour of that?

We seem to have 100% agreement at the moment that option 1 is the solution - always display 1st & 2nd names allowing members to decide what to put in eg 'Lyn D'; Linda D'; 'Linda Daly' etc etc. If there are arguments for something else we need to hear them soon or the vocal minority will carry the day - don't say you weren't warned !
