i started this year off 24 had an evaluation with a pro and aimed to get down to 14 by the end of the year. have had 6 lesson, hit 200 balls down the range every week, bar a month off with bad back, and have played at least 27 holes a week. Am currently off of 15 and with the way ive played this week do not think i'll be getting to my target. Next year i'd like to get down to 10 and hopefully break 80 for the first time. Its a big ask but you gotta aim high. With range time and lessons its cost me nearly £800 for those 9 shots. How scary is that!!! the worst thing is i do not feel like a much better player, im still far to inconsistent. This game is a brain beater aint it!!

I'd like to be a good steady 20-22 i'm playing one course better then my 28 but the other courses i play that i don't play as regular i'm playing over so when i say steady i'd like to be playing all courses at 20-22 play a minimum of 3 times a week so i hope this is achievable.

It is my intention in 2010 to reduce my handicap by at least 1.0-1.5 shots but you have to be realistic in your goals.By keeping regular scorecards posted on the site and checking your game analysis will give you the indications what are the strengths and weaknesses these are the area's I look at. When I am working on any part of my game,it is normally over the range, with that in mind, only take the clubs I require. If it's my short game I am working on,I will just take 2 or 3 wedges and leave the other clubs in the bag.I sometimes take my video camera to record my swing and keep check on what I am doing this has worked wonders in the past. When get home I have even replayed it on the T.V you can learn a hell of a lot like this. I have been with the same Teaching Pro for about 4 years and he has my swing recorded with his camera on his laptop ,and can go back to any lesson and show me what what we worked on. I am going to start having regular lesson's again this year and it was the best advice that was given to me.Some golfer's have never had a lesson and are very good at the game, this was not for me though,we are not all the same.So long as you enjoy your golf thats what it's all about.

Aspirations are to find time to play more and see how that affects a handicap... all in all though planning to enjoy every day as it comes and make better use of 'course management' to play within my scope of endeavour. Must try and remember to bring along spectacles (does help to find the ball) as an aid to improving putting... and now and again play sensible shots... instead of the 'trick shots' I enjoy...

Hi Paul Its very healthy to have a goal for 2010. I too am determined to bring my handicapp down as well. I have almost finished reading a good book (Iam not a reader) that has given me much to think about and would suggest it is a good read for anyone who is determined to bring their handicapp down, the book is entitled "Dream On" by John Richardson. This guy usually scores 100+ on his local course but decides on a challenge: is it possible for someone who plays badly to set himself a goal of playing his local course and break par? There is lots to think about from this book, not much golf can be played in this weather so I reccomend you read this, I think it will put you on a good path to reaching your goal. Good luck Paul All the best to all at TSG
