For the best part of six months I've been using the Pro V1 golf ball, then when I ran out of them I moved onto the Pro V1x

Playing golf last Saturday I realised that most of my Pro V1x balls had seen better days.

Seeing as I had a plastic toy box full of Titleist golf balls I dug out a dozen NXT Tour balls for today's round.

Well, what a difference, just didn't like them.

Nice enough when hitting them but around the greens and putting, not working for me at all.

Now this is strange as before I started using the Pro V1's and Pro V1x's I always used the NXT Tour ball.

Isn't it strange how changing from one type of ball to another can see such a change.

Well Russ - Don't think you would like playing Foursomes with a mate of mine then. I usually play with PTS Roll balls - but left to him he would happily play with a grubby, yellow Pinnacle.

Point is he plays off 7 and going down - so does the ball you use REALLY MATTER ?!? - discuss.

I don't know about your mate Bob, but I could certainly feel the difference last Sunday.

Maybe it's because I've used the same make of ball for so long, whereas you mate plays with a different ball each time.

Hi Russ,

Let you into a secret ..... It depends what he finds (LOL). When we played @ our previous club (name protected) it was Ultras, Pinnacles, DDH etc. However, now at WHGC he seems to be playing with Pro V1 and NXT balls.

NOW, he has either come into money (that he has not told me about) OR (more likely) our members are more affluent.

Mind you I can't hit a Pro V1 - so bring back the scuffed Pinnacle !!!!

Hi Russ

I'm in a similar boat, most of my current ball selection includes Pinnacle things, that go straight and long but retain touch around the greens, OK that's what is on the box.

But I have tried a selection (usually acquired as presents) and found that the ball types do make a difference, being able to trust that the ball runs true (more about confidence than skill) is key for me (and I still manage to find all different types around the courses I get to play).  I try them all at some stage but still revert back to the Pinnacle Gold balls out of choice (and because I have some left).  When they are gone I will move onto the next selection - Dunlop somethings or Wilson something elses... also acquired as a present... I just don't seem to be losing as many balls as I used to.

I did try some other brands - but found they had a tendency to power fade into the water - rather a lot... OK that was a while ago and sometimes I am a bit straighter these days.

Fidn the ones that suit and stick with them is my current  motto,  when I get good enough to be able to see the difference I will make a more informed choice.

I must be getting used to the Titleist NXT Tour balls now.

Played at the Priors today and they felt good.
