Matchplay - the best golf format to watch?

I've largely stopped watching golf on TV because I can't spare the time to follow a four day tournament (so I generally just watch a couple of hours of the last day). But with the WGC World Matchplay I'm back to being hooked (although the coverage skips around too much). For me Matchplay is definitely the game format to watch - two top golfers playing each other in a dynamic knockout rather than 60 top golfers playing the course over 4 days and seeing who plays it best - a sprint rather than a marathon. I guess that's also why the Ryder Cup is the most popular golf tournament in the world. I can't beleive I'm alone in my thinking. So is this the start of the end for 4 day 'player against the course' tournaments? May be like the swing away from 5 day test cricket to 20-20 one-day cricket?

Pete - Have to agree with you and it's the original way the game was played too. I know TW is currently not playing (golf that is) but any form of the game that means you don't have the TW Show has my vote. Although Golf Channel or CBS might pull the plug on coverage if "the man" gets K.O.'d in a few 1st Round Match Play Comps. Hope you are well

Well Mr. Poulter has finally managed to prove that he's not just a guy who wears pink... But poor old Casey, he must be feeling like - always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
