Well with the teams almost complete:

U.S. Team: Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Kenny Perry, Jim Furyk, Anthony Kim, Justin Leonard, Ben Curtis, Boo Weekley. Captains picks - Steve Stricker, Hunter Mahan, J.B. Holmes and Chad Campbell

- an impressive line-up, but no Tiger and more than a few rookies...

Europe Team: Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, Robert Karlsson, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Graeme McDowell, Justin Rose, Soren Hansen, Oliver Wilson. Captain's picks: Paul Casey, Ian Poulter

- some very strong talent, but selecting his friend, Poulter, over Darren Clarke or even Monty is an interesting captain's pick !

So, the US team have no 'Tiger' to disrupt them and the European team has no 'Monty' to bolster the 'juniors' so who is it to be, the defending champions or the home team?????????

I can understand Paul Casey as he's the matchpay champion but why pick Poulter. I would have prefered old boy Darren Clark or even the german Kaymer. He's won twice on the europeon tour and he's young. Good pick for the future. But NO NO NO poulter

Well, it's the innocence of youth... (but I do agree in the Darran Clarke/Poulter debate).

speaking in the pub the other day and my mate who lives in the bookies told me the europeans are favourites for the ryder cup. Giving 6/4 for the yanks and 11/10 for euro boys. I found that strange as i thought the yanks would be firm favourites with the big names they have.

I have gone for best scoring european being Garcia and best yank being Michelson.

Thoughts!!!!

Faldo the best golfer this Island has produced, but is to narrow minded to be a good captain, fancy bringing his mate Poulter who is after all just a CLOTHES HORSE as he cannot win anything, not even made the cut in last 2 events, where as Darren UNDER PRESSURE WON but because he PLAYS on the European Tour Faldo does not pick him and his partnership with Westwood would have given the team valuble points.

The pressure is on Poulter, I only hope he can deliver but fear he will not, but this side is still to good for those Yanks and the Europeans will win AGAIN !!!

Alright, you baited me into responding. I am an American living and working in Bucks.

I think Europe will win (again), but the boys from the States will make it interesting this year. I think not having the distraction that Tiger creates will be a benefit to the US Team and that could make things interesting.

That combined with playing at Valhalla with a home country gallery will make this year's Ryder Cup very competitive.

Ah, come on now, I can't beleive no-one has anything to say about the European fight back yesterday. It was simply fantastic, by mid-way through the Foursomes it looked like it was going to be a US runaway but the Europeans dug in deep and came away with a fantastic result.  I know where I'm going to be for about 10 hours today...

Great to watch. Super day for the euro boys. At least they have a chance on the singles. Holmes has been great to watch off the tee but seems to lack consistency in the rest of his game. Anthony Kim has failed to produce what we know he can but its great to see Michelson enjoying his Ryder cup with the rookies playing alongside him. How good is he to watch when he obviously is having fun? Who's getting sick of hearing Boo,Boo all day? Allthough i did find Boo SA quite funny for the first time. Lost its humour after hearing it for 5 or 6 holes.

Anyway i just thought i would like to confirm i did say Poulter would be no good and I'm proven right. (has anyone seen my glasses??)

Good to see the Americans win with good grace this time. Kim, Perry and Boooooooooooooo (ridden by Chris McCarron) were unstoppable and deserved the win. I think Lee & Paddy Harrington gave up the fight once result was known so 16.5 - 11.5 seems a little harsh on the score stakes.

But what wonderful golf ! - Think Poults was brilliant, the man was "eye balls out" most of the time - let us never doubt this commitment to the cause again.

Capt. Faldo did his best - all the European players were fantastic and put in a great defence of the Cup. It was America's turn to get the small breaks (Hunter Mahan's putt on the 17th - COME ON ???) and good luck to them.

Cup is loaned to America for the next two years - have no doubt that come 2010 at Celtic Manor, in the words of that famous Norwegian commentator "your boys will get a terrible beating" will be ringing in Wales.

It's only sport, not war.

Congrats to the European team for fighting so hard - every match was fiercely competitive and thouroughly enjoying to watch!

I felt the Americans' "nothing to loose" attitude, the addition of the rookies who hadn't seen the disappointment of the past 8 or 10 years, and probably the absence of Tiger all added up to just enough advantage to take the cup back.

For me, it was the play of Kenny Perry last week that was most outstanding and most deserving.

Valhalla is only 3 hours from my previous home in Indiana. I just hope I am still in the UK September of 2010 so I can go to Wales and see first hand what has to be the game at its pinnacle.
