Just want to rant about repairing pitch marks..i know not everyone who plays golf understands the etiquitte but when you go and play a stunning course, only to find the green's like a battlefield and whats worse to know its sometimes the members making the craters..I just recently played Chathham Park and it was in excellent condition, the green's where emaculate apart from said bomb craters...So please lets get the message out because them green keeper's keep us playing the golf we love.....................sorry for ranting...

I'm with you Ryan!
I played yesterday and watched at least two putts take a detour 6 inches from the cup due to pitch marks - luckily they werent my putts but I would rather Clubs lecture us on 'Pitch Repairing' than the length of our socks or whether we have pockets on our shorts!!

For me, not repairing pitch marks is second only to NOT RAKING BUNKERS! Drives me insane ... every time I end up in a greenside bunker, I walk up to find it looking like a recent moon landing. Footprints all over the place, and more often than not ... my ball in one of them.
What's so hard about repairing pitch marks and raking bunkers?!?

Have to agree with both items mentioned here, and I'd like to add another one. Why do people not replace their divots?
Many a time I've heard people say that the reason they don't repair pitch marks is that it's the greenkeeper's job!!!! How ignorant can people be?
It's the same thing with not raking bunkers. If I hit a ball into a bunker I'd take bets that it will be in a footprint, it could be the only footprint in the bunker but my ball will be there! Again, it only takes seconds to rake the sand but that's far too much for people to do.
A couple of things I have heard are these.....
Some golf clubs put all their members into eighteen groups, and each group is responsible for one green on the golf course. The club offer prizes/incentives to the group who's green is the best kept, worth a try at your golf club?
If a golf club has a course marshall, and they see you play a shot out of a bunker but not rake it after, they will ask you to go back and rake it or get off the course. It could be worth having a few nominated members who will report any incidents they see from members. The problem with this is what punishment can the club impose on anyone who is a regular offender?
