A lot is made of golf balls, which is best and all that, but I rec'd the following a couple of days ago that made me sit up and think. Take a look at the video - amazing.
The Pro V-1 ball everyone, it seems, venerates because so many of the top pro's use it, is actually a 3 piece ball, and you need a club head speed of at least 100mph to compress all 3 stages - if you don't you will never fully compress and you will never get full performance/distance. that the pro's do.
We get more distance out of a ball that has only 2 stages of compression...like a Titelist NG Tour. It is more suited to our swing speed and we can compress it on impact and hit it further than a Pro V -1.
So the secret is not to buy the most expensive because we are actually decreasing the distance we can hit the ball, unless your club head speed is over 100mph, which is highly unlikely for ther vast majority of amateurs.
Watch this video, it shows what a golf ball goes through when hit at 150mph. It's amazing, but no-one hits this hard, Tiger Woods for eg, hits at just under 130mph. most of us amateurs manage 80 - 95, MAX.
This was taken at an amazing 7000 frames per sec.

Alan, my favourite golf ball is any that seems to listen whilst i am shouting (offering encouragement) at it to alter course. This happens all too frequently (the shouting). I agree amazing video.

Wow, loving this video!
Funnily enough, I recently had a conversation with one of the guys at Direct Golf who told me that despite 'Titleist' being the most preferred ball on the market, that 'Bridgestone' produces the best ball - as you say - for an amateur's swing speed.....
Trouble is, 'Bridgestone' will need to spend a lot more on their Brand's affinity with golf before I buy them.........and I wonder why I am STILL playing off 17!!

I’m quite new to the game, but have just purchased some Srixon Soft Feel, simply because they claim to be good for people with a slower swing, which my brother insists on telling me I have whenever we play
Here’s hoping for some longer drives

I just bought a box of Bridgestone FIX golf balls (yellow box) - a two-piece ball, with a soft core. It has low compression, but a soft cover for control. First time out, and I shot my all-time lowest score (82). Not sure how much the ball had to do with that, but I must say it performed very well. Felt long off the tee, and also felt I had good control of short pitch/chip shots. Let's see how we do tomorrow...

Over the last few years I have tried several different brands. The ones I got on best with were Srixon Soft Feel and Tri Speed and also Wilson Staff DX2. I'm honest enough with myself to know that using Pro V1's is a waste on someone of my ability, although I do sometimes buy thier lake balls.
Callaway Warbirds on the other hand were like hitting rocks. Really didn't like the feel of them around the greens.
Not tried any Bridgestone balls, I may see how they go next time I need to buy some.

I agree, Alan. I got "fitted" for a ball at Golf Live by the Titleist people and guess what they came up with - the ProV1, or perhaps if i fancied it, the Pro V1x. I said i normally played the NXT tour; they said i'd get better results with the Pro V; I said are you saying I'm too good a golfer for the NXT tour then or what? Obviously that stopped the conversation as they wouldn't have wanted to be rude to a potential customer!.
As you know I'm playing golf every day in August and on unfamiliar courses I am bound to lose a few balls. I did ask Titleist for sponsorship but they declined, so I have bought a whole bunch of Srixon AD333s at just over a quid each from direct golf. To be honest I can't find a lot wrong with them. They go long, don't seem to spin wildly out of control like they think that's what i'm trying to do with them and I got 12 ft of backspin off a 9 iron. OK that was just once, but, hey, it actually happened so it must be possible.
We're playing at Dartford in August. why don't i play the AD333, you play an NXT tour and the winner gives the loser a sleeve of balls (we can decide then which one!)
Cheers, Trevor.

This is very weird as my normal ball for summer use is the Pro V1.
Last winter the assistant pro at my golf club told me about the Srixon Soft Feel.
I used them all through the winter months and was very happy with them.
So I go from one extreme to the other.
Been trying some Bridgestone golf balls recently that I found, and I'm very happy with them as well.
