Hi

I've been playing golf for about 4 years now and I am looking for a new 3 wood. I have a low budget and if I want i new club, the best I can get is a wilson prostaff LCG new for just under £40. I have another option which is to use sites such as golfbidder.co.uk... would you say a reasonally good condition cleveland launcher (2009) second hand is better than a brand new wilson prostaff lcg??? (i think i could predict the answer but I am new to golf and dont know anything!)

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,
I would say don't assume a top branded name club is going to be better for you than a lesser one, all i would advise is if your previous 3 wood was recommended for you with regard to loft, shaft flex etc then get one that will work for you,  if not then take advise from someone before buying or go somewhere like American Golf to hit some balls with there demo clubs.
 Hope this helps.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for prompt and useful reply! :) Unfortunately I'm unable to get to somewhere where i can try demo clubs :( but thanks for the tip on not to be too glued to the big makes! I have spoken to some people, and would you agree that I should aim for clubs with regular flex and with a very high amount of forgiveness and is easy to use and get in the air??

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matthew,

Unfotunately (for you if you can't get to anywhere to try out some new clubs) the best way of finding what is best is to try before you buy. Obviously you have a budget but that doesn't mean that you can't get what you are after. Direct Golf and American Golf usually have second hand clubs in stock which you can try and they will give you all the info you need regarding distance, flight etc. I would recommend trying to get to one of these and having a go of whatever they have in stock and seeing how it feels.

When I first started playing on a more regular basis all I was looking at was clubs online but you never know if it is going to be any good for you unless you have tried hitting a few balls with it.

hi,

I've done the best I can, trying mates clubs, trying clubs in the proshop and speaking to people. I have used that info and have risked buying a club online, however they're sure I've made a good choice based on how I swing etc

I've ordered a graphite shaft reg flex 2008 callaway x 3 wood... Should arrive on monday or tuesday... will post here when I know what it's like :)

thanks

Matt
