I was always taught to replace the divot you take on the fairway, and to use the seed boxes that are sometimes  provided on the tees on par 3's and not to replace the divot only on these occasions.
However listening to the commentary on the golf on Sky sports this week this point was raised, about replacing divots.
There was some conflict about replacing your divots when you hit a shot out of the rough,I have never done this and can say its the first time I have heard of replacing your divots in the rough.
Can someone help out on this?
Do you replace your divot when taking a shot out of the rough,or leave it be?

Jack

I know you should not replace a divot on the tee, as this can cause a player teeing off to slip on it.  With regards the rough, I think it would help the course to regain a good surface and quality, as it would on the fairway.

I do it.

I think it's always better to replace divots wherever possible, except on tees.  Even in the rough, you wouldn't want to find your ball in an unrepaired one, would you?

But Jack, aren't you always on the fairway?!!

me thinks it's hard enough to get some people to replace thier divots on the fairway let alone the rough,
Must admit that I have never replaced a divot when playing from the rough, shame on me!!!!!! as I seem to spend alot of time in the rough just lately

I've always thought that you should (as a matter of routine) replace fairway divots, seed tee-box divots (sometimes helps if you squash them down so that others don't slip). divots in the rough.. hmmm

I don't make much of a mess in the rough - but do try to repair obvious damage... usually when I have failed to sweep the ball from the rough...

and of course, pitch mark etiquette can be applied, in that you are allowed to fix somone elses divot after you've taken a shot...
