There will be plenty prizes on offer for all of the above winners and runners up + £5's of every entry fee will be donated to our site charity - BALASA (British Amputee and les Autres Sports Association) which anyone who came last year, will agree is a great cause!

The day is no more than a good "social" opportunity to meet many of your fellow TSG members and includes coffee & bacon rolls on arrival, 18 holes of golf, a two course lunch, afternoon tea and of course the all important prize giving and the presentation of the Halliwell Cup.

We have arranged for a special TSG discount on buggies (costs on request, but there are limited numbers, so please let us know in advance), marshalls will be on the course and a photographer on the day to record the events!

Registration will start at 9am for a 10am start with an end time planned of around 4.30pm.

Dear TSGers,

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone that attended yesterday's TSG OPEN Golf Day Championship! The day proved to be more than just good fun but also a chance to raise money for the disabled golfers charity - BALASA. Forty six TSGers and their guests arrived at Bletchingley in anticipation for the days events and despite a few last minutes changes in personnel, everyone got off in good time and the competition began in earnest!

Despite a lack of clarity from the management, the 'Yellow Ball' competition proved a lot of laughs, with all but two of the four-balls failing to get it home.... some even didn't get it past the first hole.... sorry, first tee! (JB).

Meanwhile, The Nearest Pin, proved the most hotly contested competition with Ken Simmonds, Paul Langford and Frank Knott, all recording birdies on 17. The Longest Drive was a little more tricky with only three names on the card by the end of the day. The Putting Comp. proved to be tricky too, with only 1 player scoring under par.

The main prizes went to two very popular members of the site..... with the Men's competition going to count-back with two players recording scores of 36 points. The Ladies comp. still competitive but with an outright winner on 27 points.

However, the main reason for the day was to get together with your fellow TSGers from around the UK and to support BALASA. A big thank to those that entered the raffle AND to those that donated to the prizes, including Your Golf Travel (Seve Day entry) InternetGolfStore.co.uk (Srixon Golf Bag, Hats, Titliest Golf Balls etc), The London Golf Show (Tickets), TheSocialGolfer.com for the wine and beer(?!), a hand-made silver ball marker from new TSGer Russell Foxwell + Four -ball vouchers from Woolston Manor, South Essex, Hintlesham and Mill Green. We can confirm that TSGers raised over £500 on the day, which we know will go towards supporting this fantastic cause!

Many thanks to our very own TSG celebrity Trevor Sandford, who officially launched his book "Golf Against Cancer - A Month of Madness on the M25" after lunch, which included an anecdotal and funny account of his odyssey. Another thank you goes to Bletchingley Golf Club, who presented a course in great condition, served some good food and looked after everyone superbly. On which note, I can also confirm that Bletchingley enjoyed having TSGers at the club very much over the last few months, so much so, they have offered to extend our existing discounted green fees for the rest of 2012 and for the foreseeable future!

Finally, here is the result.... drum roll.......

Mens Champion Golfer - Paul Langford (36 points)

2nd Place - Richard Saunders (36 points)

3rd Place - Andy Parker (33 points)

Ladies Champion Golfer - Brigitte Lockwood (27 points)

Longest Drive - Steve Ramey (260 yards)

Nearest Pin - Frank Knott (To within 8 inches)

Putting Comp. - Tom Evans (22 Putts)

Team 4 Ball - Richard Saunders, Steve Gray, Glynn Davis and Tom Evans (Solid performances all round!)

Yellow Comp. - Greg Butler, Peter Mayo, David Wood and Kevin Wellings (They got it home!)

That's it for now, we'll be editing the photos over the next few days, so watch out for that posting, there are some great shots in the 'can'.... in the meantime, thanks again to all those that made the effort to come along and special thanks to both John Amos and Alan Haywood for helping out on the day!

Til next year........

Happy Golfing!

Just a brief note of appreciation for all who made this day quite a special event.  Some credit (I suppose) must go to the TSG team, Course was the best I have seen this year, favouring the straighter hitters, clubhouse hospitaility was what we have come to expect.

We had a good time, found a few new places on the golf course but could all say that we had at least one good shot/hole.  Great fun to be had, and we must encourage more ladies to participate next year.  On course etiquette was in the main very good, and we all know that 2 societies on the same course can lead to a slow round, but so saying we all got around as quick as the 4-ball in front allowed.

In short, course presented a challenge, greens were snakey and could bite back, trees were close (all too often) semi-rough to be avoided... weather perfect, views fabulous, great fun... and hopefully everyone (even the newcomers) got to enjoy their day and will be encouraged to continue...

Just as an aside, point to remember, if the 4-ball in front of you is keeping up with the 4-ball in front of them, there's nothing to be gained by rushing and pressing and not waiting for the bell to sound... especially on blind holes and when you can drive over the ridge - you never know who you might hit...

Anyway - great day out, well done to competition winners, congratulaitons to those new to TSG on the day, and well done those new to competition play, in my 4-ball you were all splendid (OK some slightly more splendid than others)...

Super day out, I can only speak highly of the event...

Well done to all...

GREAT DAY ON A GREAT COURSE !

The long awaited TSG Open Golf Day Championship finally arrived, a well organised event by Ian & the Team (Ian up at 4.00am , reminds me of my Airport working days !).  We were greeted by Ian's big smile as we arrived and he was still smiling an hour later despite having to do some final tweaking due to last minute cancellations.

The Clubhouse where we all met was well presented too, the big TSG board on the wall showing the different teams and their Captain, everyone's handicap adjusted to 3/4 for the competition.  The Trophies and raffle prizes nicely displayed,  Ian's temporary office with high tech gadgets neatly organised.  TSG banners displayed at the 1st & 10th holes and other appropriate places to make sure TSG gets its name known.

The Event was well attended by TSGs, their guests all in support of BALASA giving us the opportunity to meet some truly inspiring and courageous characters who showed us that whatever happens to you in life, you need courage and mental strength. Thanks for speaking to us and playing with us.

We also had the opprtunity to meet the amazing Trevor Sandford who raised some £8,000+ for Cancer UK last August when playing golf around the M25 for 31 consecutive days.  Trevor launched his book on the day of the Championship, again all monies raised to go to Cancer UK Charity.  I had the priviledge to be part of Trevors's 4-balls, so reading his blog is even "more in the moment" as I can vividly picture Trevor taking his Tee shots, and sometimes (only sometimes, looking for his wayward long drives, I watched him making some fantastic putts too....  If only I had heard about Trevor's exploits sooner, I would have joined him on many days. Action replay, Trevor ????  I know Ian has better ideas: 31 days, 31 countries....

Thank you Trevor/Nicholas/Kamal (a truly international team of Irish, English, South African and French composition) for putting up with me, I suppose I came in useful sometimes looking for the Yellow ball in the woods, bushes and long grass !!!  I must admit it was a little daunting, but exciting at the same time, to be paired up with such long hitters, but you were all very kind and encouraging to me.  Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to the yellow ball at the 17th, when IT decided it had enough of being spanked and went for a refreshing swim instead, we forgive you Captain !!!!  It was a fairly long round, a little slow at times, but it gave us the opportunity to admire the surrounding lanscape and look for  balls, chat etc.

The day was a true social gathering, giving us the opportunity to meet other TSGs, but I dont think I can remember all their names.

We also had glamour as 3 Ladies TSGs attended    .  Hope we provided the teams a little entertainment along the way, not forgetting the lipstick for the photo shoot at the 1st Tee !   Yes we do need to recruit and encourage some new Ladies. I am doing my bit, so if anyone else has any ideas, please contact Ian and the Team.

I met John Amos from the Team, the very man who changed my golfing life 6 months ago.  John got me on board the TSG at the London Golf Show just as I was about to leave Olympia to go home !!!!

I learned that John enjoys reading my long reviews/reports/anecdotes in the morning with a cup of tea.... so I shall carry on.

Alan Haywood (the 3rd member of the Team) did the draw for the raffle which raised more money for BALASA. The prizes, all generously donated, were of good quality and attractive.  I did win a few....  I suppose Alan will be forgiven for forgetting to charge the Video Camera battery overnight ????

A big thank you to ALL Bletchingley staff for making our day enjoyable and providing a well deserved tasty meal, but what a lovely/jolly crowd you had to deal with....

I personally shall return to play golf at Bletchingley at  every opportunity (please come and join me) as I truly love this golf course and I feel I belong, still thinking about membership but I have to see what the winter season brings.

I have also enjoyed discovering different courses, and writing my own views and experience and I look forward to try other carefully selected courses where TSGs get special rates, very often 2 for 1 etc.... and please come and join my posting as you now know what I look like and that I can play golf (well I took  the Salver home!!!).  I always like company on the golf course.

Thanks a million to all who made this day "TRULY GREAT " and congratulations to all the lucky winners,  2 Lefties amongst them ! (Paul & Brigitte).

Looking forward to seeing the photos and to NEXT YEAR'S BIG DAY.

The End...... not quite.

PS:
A special mention for Ken Simmonds ( a "VET" like me):  I wish him good luck for his imminent knee operation.  I promise I shall send you a card, you may also get a visit from me, Essex is not that far from Twickenham and I am  used to the M25 as I visit Brentwood quite often now that my son is an "adopted Essex boy".  Will put my golf bag/clubs and shoes in my car:  Little Warley, Weald Park, Mardyke, Stockbrook Manor & more are on my list...............................

What a great day it turned out to be!

I was privileged to be first down the fairway, and promptly parred the first, WITH the covetted yellow ball, but, for me, it was all downhill from there. I let the side down by losing the yellow ball on the 17th, going OB left....and we had a super yellow ball score 'till then - would have won it easily.....the sympathetic smiles from my playing partners were I suspect, and quite undertandably, through gritted teeth.

The course was in excellent shape, and is certainly one of the better courses I play. It was so nice to see so many people there and to finally put a face to some of the names you see on the TSG site. Such a pity that so many regular users of the site couldn't make it, mainly due, I suspect, to the pressure of that dreaded activity - work.

Nice to see the lady contingent up by 300% this year....thank you Ruth, thank you Virginija, and of course the irrepressible Brigitte....and BTW, the camera was fully charged when I handed it over.... someone left it on continually, and with these digital thingy's, you have to turn them off between takes...OK Ian? :-)

Many thanks to Ian for all the long hours and hard work he has put in to ensure this was, without doubt, a resounding success. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say, well done, and we look forward to the next one.

A very good day at one of our most visited 'TSG Preferred' courses.....enjoyed by all, but missed by many.

Bletchingley was looking fantastic and I must admit that, when I arrived, part of me wished that I would be playing, but I'd had my 'fix' of golf on the South Coast the previous two days.   Ian had put in many hours in preparation for the day, so I was pleased to be able to assist where possible.   Even I was amazed at the number of raffle prizes he'd managed to obtain when I helped load them on the table.

It was good to meet so many TSGers and I'm pleased to say there were no takers for the 'spare' yellow ball I had - we're an honest bunch!   Zooming around the course in a buggy (possibly a bit too fast at times - ouch!), we witnessed you all playing with varying degrees of skill, but always with enthusiasm.   There were, of course, some bad shots (what is it about that yellow ball?) but we did see some very good golf as well.

Standing behind the par-3 17th, we were lucky to see two long birdie putts drained - well done Paul and Ken - great putts & high fives all round.  Seizing the moment, Mr M was busy with his BlackBerry telling the @world.   What is it with twitter - how did #we ever manage before?!!  @TSGers........

Congratulations to Paul, Brigitte and everyone else who played well on the day.   BALASA was the biggest winner though, thanks to the participation and generosity of TSG members, guests and partners who donated prizes.

I left Bletchingley almost 12 hours after I'd arrived.   I didn't hit a ball all day, but had a very good day on a very good golf course.
