Rob Wotton, Ken Simmonds, Adam Peek and I had all entered the Polly Parrot Charity Day, at South Essex, which aims to raise money in aid of the Dedicated Children’s A & E Department within Basildon Hospital to provide money for furniture, play equipment, artwork and multisensory equipment for the unit.

There were (I think) 40 entries, with various prizes at to be won, not forgetting the aim of the day was to raise money, and have some fun! The forecast had been for some rain by lunch time; however, true to form the weather forecasters had got it wrong, so it was raining when we arrived at 9.30am (all 4 of us early!), and didn’t stop all day!

Once registered, and rules/scoring had been explained we were told we were the 2nd group off on the Heron teeing off at 11.07, so bacon rolls, and coffee consumed we headed off to the driving range for a bit of much needed practice.

The day started off steady for all of us, with all scoring consistently. At the end of the first 9 as a team we had scored slightly above par, so went into the 2nd nine in anticipation of a decent team score, not to mention (oh I just have) Rob was leading the longest drive when we left it (that would eventually be won by one of the women contestants). We continued around the Vixen, with all of us scoring well. By the time we had completed the course, we were happy to be back on dry land, and having submitted our cards, enjoyed a sausage & mash dinner, with the obliquity beer of course.

As the results were announced Adam had come runner up in the singles contest scoring 41 points (the winner scored 42), and was more than happy to receive a £100 American golf voucher, and trophy. Much to our amazement when the team 4 ball winners were announced, it was none other than us!! Seeing us all pot £10 each, and a free 4 ball at South Essex.

All in all it was a very well run day, which (in my opinion) deserved better support. I’m sure everyone who attended enjoyed their day, I know we did.

There will be another event run at the Burstead 10th September, which will posted on the TSG, so if you fancy a good days golf, at a nice course helping to raise money for a good cause then put this date in your diary!

Well Done Mark and team. Also Polly Parrot for the money raised.
I will have to play moderately better at Burstead to win the second place. To add to my 1st from last year and 3rd this year. I really do want the full set.

I also agree that it should be better attended, advertising on TSG will probably help, and I'll be sure to pass the word at South Essex where I play with the seniors.

Well Done to all who took part... Come to Burstead with at least two friends...

Now you are showing off John. I would be happy with any of the set. My best chance is always in the sweep stake!

Agreed it was another good day. I thought the course was playing really well considering the weather we have had and can't allocate any of the blame for my score to the elements.

John,

All I had was 2 minutes of glory and a photo with the sponsor before I found out was not the nearest pin in 2. - especially as I hit a great second shot in.

I plan to peak at Burstead, I lost to you by 1 point last year and with a few lessons with Matt Stables at South Essex I hope that will be enough to win.

I did mention to Matt that he gave lessons to both of us and we came 1st and 2nd, but he recieves no commission only recommendation.

John/Andy I trust you'll be putting regular cards in to reduce your handicaps? We wouldn't want any bandit claims in September :-)

Only joking chaps

My handicap is on the wall at South Essex for all to see.....

I can't seem to keep it all together when I play there.... Keeps my handicap up unfortunately.
