DESCRIPTION:

San Roque, set inthe foothills of the Sierra Bermeja mountains, is one of the most famous of European golf resorts.

The San Roque Club offers all the facilities you’d expectfrom one of the finest and most exclusive meeting place on the Costa del Sol. The two contrasting golf courses are as challenging as they are beautiful and away from the greens, four very different restaurants serve up a stunning array of high-class cuisine, from Japanese to tapas. The equestrian centre’s top class facilities appeal to everyone from novices to experts, and if a more relaxing visit appeals, the terraces, the heated pool or beauty and therapeutic treatments are among the facilities members enjoy.

The Old course, designed by Dave Thomas in 1990 with bunkers redesigned by Seve Ballesteros, is rated one of the finest courses in Europe. It's tight, sloping fairwayslined by mature cork oak trees demand straight, accurate driving. Strategic bunker placement and deceptive water hazards threaten all but the most precise approach shots. The front nine holes wind through the cork oak forests that the resort is famous for, and give superb mountain views. The back nine is laid out across rolling hills, and includes plunging, vertiginous carries that test a player's judgement of distance to the limit. As you would expect the greens are fast, contoured and true, rewarding well-judged putts and punishing anything else.

The New Course,in contrast with the Old, has a more open, parkland feel to it.But don't think it any easier. Routed over and around a promontory, with several deep grassy expanses andwithlarge greens usuallyprotected by spectacular mounds and some sharply focused nests of bunkers, this is no easy course.

Although exclusive, the club welcomes visitors. Contact club to make arrangements.
