DESCRIPTION:

Alcaidesa is a golf resortwhich offers the only links course in Spain plus a newer heathland layout all set in a setting offering magnificent views along the Spanish coast to Gibralter.

The newly built3000m² Club House is setbetween the twocourses,on the highest point of the resort, and offers all required facilities along with fantastic views of the Costa del Sol.

The original Links-type course, which has been Alcaidesa’s flagship since 1992, was complemented in 2007 by anew Heathland one.

The original links-typecourse, designed by Peter Allis and CliveClark, is laid out along thealmost 2 km of beachfront in a single loop (18-hole round beginning at the Clubhouse andreturning on the18th). The main difficulty posed by the course is the prevailing winds. With spectacular views of the Mediterranean, the Straits of Gibraltar and North Africa, and the unobstructed views of the sea from virtually any location on the course this is an excellent golfing experience.

The newcourse, designed by Dave Thomas Ltd and opened in June 2007, offers a variety of natural landscapes ranging from the plateau area (holes 1 to 5 & 17th & 18th) where the course has the feel of a Heathland course with wide fairways & outstanding views of the Mediterranean sea & the local mountain ranges, including the sierra Nevada, to the river valley where the holes meander along the valley & incorporate various water features/hazards.

Both courses are well maintained and offer a great golfing experience.

Worth a visit

Course layout is very good, but condition of bunkers and tees is not the best and because of all the hills there are a lot of blind shots which even with a course planner is difficult to work out so take plenty of balls. Not a course that I would rush back to,unless staying close by,but definitely not worth a visit from the Malaga area

Alcaidesa, a lovely links style course with fantastic views

Alcaidesa is one of only a handful of links style courses in Spain.
The club was a bit tricky to find as you have to drive through a housing estate to reach it and the clubhouse facilities were a bit basic by Spanish standards (basic changing facilities and a snack bar/bar) but, being set on the coast below San Roque, the course is well maintained and offers some fantastic views especially the views down the coast to Gibralter).
Well worth playing but a word of warning, there is a 'road' (dirt track really) which runs alongside the course and we did here stories of kids on motorcyles using the road to steal clubs off the back of buggies and then scooting off on their motorcycle (not much chance of catching them in a golf buggy!)
