Great Course, really enjoyed it

Cainhoe wood was a very good experience, I arrived early and was greeted with friendly staff in the Pro shop and Clubhouse. The order of play and tee times were very well managed by the Markers and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed.
The course I played (Castle) was in surprisingly good condition especially the greens were very well maintained. The fairways were struggling in the recent weather but made for nice long drives! The course itself is quite challenging in areas and also has holes with wide open fairways
All in all it was a fantastic day even in the heat and I would love to go back again.
I highly recommend this club

Now showing all the hard work put in by the management and Staff

The course has in the past suffered from a poor reputation, as a result of years of neglect from previous owners. In the last two and a half years, under the new Management, it has undergone both a name change and more importantly a huge improvement program. While there is still a few things that are not yet fully complete, the course and club is unrecognisable to anyone who hasn't played there in the last two years. Both courses are in great condition and offer their own challenges to golfers of any skill level. the course can get fairly busy at weekends, but weekday afternoons are wonderful. The Staff and members are very freindly. Unfortunately as a visitor, only the Manor course is available, with the Castle course reserved for members and their guests. The club house has recently been fully refurbished and is open late throughout the summer, so you can enjoy a drink and refreshments after a round. Green fees for non members are very reasonable, so give it a try (you wont be dissapointed).

Still Improving

After the previous owners basically let the courses slide badly, their is light at the end of the tunnel!

Now known as Cainhoe Wood, the courses have been renamed 'Manor' and 'Castle'(which is a mound in on the way to Clophill).

The new owners are spending some cash on the courses. The tee boxes are in better condition, fairways are grassier and the greens are better than before, if fluffy. Obviously they picked the wrong time to takeover, but, they are trying. Only one course is open to all, whilst the Castle course is 'work in progress' and until completed, will allow members only.

18 holes took 3h 35m, which is not bad, but it could have been better but for the prima donna, who had to play with his range finder at every opportunity (and coaching his mate).

Going to give it another go later in the summer, but looking good so far.

Improving

Probably played here around 8 times over the past few years and stopped two years ago. This trip back is proof that the new owners are trying to improve things. It will not happen overnight, but a good start has been made. If they keep spending on the Baron course, it will be excellent VFM. They have made the bunkers sandy instead of muddy, the fairways are in pretty good nick, and the greens are a vast improvement on what used to be - now having grass ALL over and are being looked after (and true). The final push is to tidy up some rather tatty tee boxes. The question is, would you go back? Yes, next year I think I will. No idea about the Baroness course, perhaps that will get played another day.
