Hennerton golf club

So two or three times a year my brother, brother in law, nephew and myself randomly play a course we've never been to and my brother chose hennerton. It had been raining heavily the night before, and we arrived to find the car park had only 5 cars in it with only 3 groups on the course. The guy we met in the shop was extremely pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable and even gave us a very reasonable discount as some of the greens were puddled in places. (he mentioned temp greens but all greens were playable, and we didn't see a temp green) the course is short (4200 yards}) with some very quirky holes, 8 par 3s, 3 of which were in a row. After 3 holes the heavens opened up and although prepared we got drenched. Lots of hills to climb and at times the terrain resembled Monaco grand prix, we had to be quite careful of the slippery pathways. A par 5 15th and a fairly long par4 18th with pond and fountain took us back to a nice terrace and well needed drink in the now warm sunshine. A short driving range with putting green and chipping area, (all of which I should have used before teeing off) ?? So for £25 and a lit of laughs I look forward to going back but probably not for a while. Ps my brother Brian managed to inadvertently turn his trolley on while looking for his ball, we all laughed as it crossed 2 fairways through an avenue of trees narrowly missing an electricity pylon before finishing in some thick woods throwing clubs, bag, battery and trolley in various directions ?? and no one caught it on camera ??

Nice well kept course

This course is quite short and has a lot of par 3s ,but for what it lacks in distance more than makes up with variety of holes . Very good greens with every combination of shape .If you want a fun and challenging round of less than 4 hours this is for you .Set in beautiful surroundings .Its a bit of a workout in places but there really is something for everybody here .It's a thinkers course where everybody stands a chance of a decent score if you use the grey matter.

A little gem in Berks, near Reading.

Not a long course, under 4500 yards from the White), Par 3s and 4s and only 1 Par 5 , but certainly lots of "wow" factors due to the incredible change in elevation (cardiac hills), stunning scenery, stillness, proper countryside with surrounding fields with horses, sheep and the incredible red kites flying & "squawking". You certainly need a some athletic legs for some of the climbs or descents, an electric trolley is advisable.

Because of the elevations, one needs to add not 20, not 40 but some 60% for club selection. I am not a Mathematician but I think it about right according to my golf partners, one being Bev W. who is a Member of this Club and offered a free round to 1st & 2nd joiners ("Mr Pine Ridge-Walton" & I) , thank you for that, Bev. We played on 3rd Sept 2021.

A family owned course, fully mature, and in in good condition. The Greens had just been sanded and Putting was a struggle for all of us.

A small Proshop, friendly Clubhouse with a pretty outside area overlooking the 18th Green and the 10th Tee. I had a delicious snack before heading back to the M4 towards Twickenham.

If one thinks a short course is not challenging, think again and get your precision instruments working hard on this course.

Certainly recommended.

Great course

Hennerton Golf Club is a little off the beaten track just outside Wargrave in Berkshire. We were lucky to play in warm sunshine (in October!) and were awarded with some beautiful views. Fairways and greens were in superb condition, as were the bunkers. Friendly club and very good value (through TeeOfftimes, but worth giving the club a call) for what is a relatively short course. I lived nearer, I'd want to join!

Short course, but worth a visit

This certainly isn't the longest course you'll ever get to play, but don't expect to walk away with a low score as there are some tricky holes here. What you will definately get is an eclectic mix of holes, some of which are played to a backdrop of the nicest scenery in the area.

The course has a few climbs that need to be taken through your round, but the effort is worth it.
