Best pay and play I have visited. Lovely course

Played a WPGA pro-am, really good value. Played with Chelmsford professional Wendy Daden, who had an exciting finish, birdie birdie.

The course was set up for professionals so very well presented, greens were great. Staff very friendly and a well stocked pro-shop.

Worth the drive.

Rated the 9th best course in England

Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas design course. Rated the 9th best course in England Is a mature tree line parkland municipal course which had an easy walk with undulating & some tight fairways.
Greens were good & ran pretty true. Fairways were in good condition. But if you run off the fairways into the 1st cut or under the trees it is very easy to lose a ball.
Some bunker had wooden steps going down. There was several long par 4. So if you’re a short hitter like me you will struggle to get there in 2.
Practise chipping/ putting green. Driving range. Ball waters
Also has a great pro shop with a huge selection of equipment and clothing.
Overall a very good course will definitely play again and worth a visit

CLAIMED TO BE BEST MUNICIPAL COURSE IN ENGLAND

I have played this course many times it is always challenging but fair. Because of its location it is always busy and the greens can suffer because of that.
Good value, especially on weekdays.
doesnt have a clubhouse as such but American Golf and a chain PUb/Restaurant fill the bill.

What a course

Thorpe Wood is voted in the top 5 pay and play courses in the UK EVERY YEAR. It is awesome. The course is very well kept by what seems like an army of greenkeepers. The only bad thing is trying to get a decent tee time as they are booked solid every weekend (even through the coldest winter) It is a challenge for sure (I play off 17 and struggle to go under 90 on the par 71) I would suggest playing off the white tees as that is a par 73 and you not THAT much longer. A lack of decent par 3's (only 3 of them in total and 2 of those are quite long) is a slight negative but all in all a SUPERB golf course.
