Very decent course

I had only ever played here during the summer before, and on both occasions I had been impressed with the course and especially the greens.

I wasn't sure what to expect after overnight February rain, but I found a course that handles wet weather better than a lot of other local courses.

The course isn't short, it's 6600 yards from the yellows, but as most of the holes have fairways which are very forgiving, this at least allows you to open your shoulders and have a good crack at them.

The tees and fairways were in really good condition, and while the greens were in decent nick for the amount of rain we've had recently, they were a little on the bobbly side. They were still better than a number of other courses I've played on at this time of year though.

My favourite hole is the 18th, a longish par 4 which is played uphill and back to the clubhouse, and is very pleasing to the eye. Just play it better than I did!

The clubhouse itself lives up to the high standards of the course, and is the perfect place to grab a drink after your round.

Caversham Heath

Played here for £12 on an online offer. I have played at CH before & Know it is a very long 6600yds off Yellow! The green had been hollatyned & were quit sandy, but played quite acurate. There are a few holes where water & Bracken are your main obstacles, but plenty of well placed bunkers scatterred everywhere. The main challenge, I believe is the distance you have to walk, especially when you're getting on , like me! Worth another visit when the greens are finished.

CAVERSHAM HEATH GC

Found a good deal to play here via Direct Tee Times - £20. A longish, flattish, rather featureless course which is underpinned by the quality of its greens - enormous, very undulating and in excellent condition. Fairways played well. Well bunkered - a few could have been better raked by the early morning green staff. We played at 10.00 and found the course very quiet. Whilst I did not use the clubhouse, prima facie the facilities looked excellent.
