Bentley Golf course is a 40 years old & now a Members club, well matured & offers challenges in the way of ditches, yes lots of them and always in the wrong places(well for my sort of game!), it has some water holes as well and many bunkers quite compacted at this time of the year.
The view of golf course as you walk to the 1st Tee is very impressive & beautiful, specially so, on such a lovely sunny afternoon, but it does make it difficult to see the ball flight.
The course was well presented with some very wide fairways in good condition, some made tight ones because of the numerous well mature trees overhanging. Some very interesting doglegs. The Tee boxes are in good condition, not always a great advantage from the Red Tees. Some Tee boxes seem to be set at an angle to the fairways to tempt you into the double ditches....
3 favourites holes:
14th, Par 4 - This hole has recently been re-designed & made very interesting with water on either side as you approach the green, the left handside being a very picturesque pond, with natural wild habitat and a "duck house" or "moorehen house", weeping willows giving definition as well. The sand traps are well before the green, more on the fairways.
16th, Par 4 - A dogleg right, with OOB on the right, sloping down to a stream ending up in a big pond that one has to cross to reach the raised green well guarded on either side by bunkers. A pretty and challenging hole.
17th, Par 3 - Again a recently re-designed hole, made very attractive with large, deep bunkers guarding the green which is raised. A small ditch filled with water on the right hand side.
The car park is big, I believe some TSGers had difficulty in finding the Golf course (GPS do go wild and lead you astray sometimes) which is just off a main road. The set up or lay out to the Pro shop, changing rooms & Clubhouse is not as user friendly as I was expecting it to be, but then again, I do have great expectations, specially so with the name "Bentley".
Clubhouse friendly, but a little quiet & old fashioned for my taste, but a pleasant & friendly service.
Well stocked Pro Shop but one cannot drive a bargain. No discount whatsoever on a Friday. Pleasant terrace by the Clubhouse overlooking the 1st & 18th Tees.
Good practice facilities.
I shall return, but not a priority, as I prefer & enjoy other challenges than ditches on a golf course. But, if you have not played at Bentley, do try the course as it may be your type of course & you will get a warm welcome.
Members seem friendly.
THE END...... My very own personal view as a Lady TSGer.
