Should be on the radar of Essex golfers

Burnham on Crouch is a little bit out of the way, but you will be glad you did if you give it a try.
The course is a fantastic mix of holes, i can't remember any 2 being similar, with a lot of holes needing a little thought beforehand. It occupies a lovely position with a lot of holes giving views of the river estuary mainly due to the undulating nature of the course. The course itself is currently like many in the area suffering from lack of rain, which means some holes have dry/parched areas which need a little tlc. Not needing any tlc are the greens which were superb, on speaking to Ken, the very helpful pro it seems the clubs investment to improve the greens is paying off. Also myself and my playing partner can vouch for the quality of the bunker sand after a few visits.
Practise facilities are good with nets, putting green and a very good size range. Club pro, captain and other staff were all very friendly and helpful.
We paid guest rate of £17 on a weekend which i feel represents excellent value and i will be going back soon.

Lovely views and a challenging course

I always enjoy playing Burnham-on-Crouch and yesterday was no different. Paul Thorne and Carlos Ramos joined me on a society day and made up a great four ball. The weather was calm for Burnham but chilly at 10 degrees, in the sun it was ok. The greens were ok, but some holes seemed crowned. Down hill putts were hard to read and very fast. The bunkers were tough, very wet with compact sand, I only went in one, but the ball rolled right under the lip. The back nine at Burnham is tough, into the breeze on many of the last holes. The 16th is a brute in the winter, none of us scored a point!
My driving deserted me on the back nine, I should have changed to a three wood but I tried to sort it out on the course not a recommendation! Another chap in our group had a storming round 2 four pointers and chipping in from 40 yards!!
The food at the club house was fresh and home cooked. We paid £30 for golf coffee bacon roll and a meal.
I would always recommend Burnham its hard to find and a long drive for many, but stunning views reward you for the effort.

An Essex gem.........

Wow....what a brilliant course!

Decided to play this course as it is close to my Dads and I have always wondered what it was like and I was very pleasantly surprised! Tucked away and over looking the river Crouch, the course has some stunning views and not a road to be heard for miles! The course is undulating (linksy in feel too) and whilst not long, it does require a bit of thought to get round. The greens were excellent(!)and the fairways and rough are also well maintained. Friendly staff, a great little find and one I am already looking forward to revisiting soon. Give it a try, hopefully you will be as impressed as me!

Very nice course

I found this golf club to be a friendly place to play golf. The course was in a great condition when I played there. Some very interesting holes and some even better views over the surrounding countryside.

This is not the longest course but it's a fair test for all golfers.

I would play here again.
