Bursted in Essex worth playing

Nice fairways, nice greens, thinking course where positioning and course management will help. Happy to play again here, liked it.

Really nice course

Having not played here before, and having heard good things about the course, I was not disappointed. The layout is good, fairways not bad for the time of year, tees a little patchy but only because the bulk of them are being given time to heal and there are a couple of mats. Greens are excellent. I was thinking of joining a club and I think I might have found "the one" lol

The Burstead

The Burstead is a very good parkland course near Billericay, Essex. On the day that we played (25th August 2017), it was shown at its splendid best, the weather was glorious and we had a great day's golf. The day started with a full English breakfast, the catering staff were friendly and helpful. In fact all the staff from the Pro to the admin staff were excellent. The course was in great condition, with a number of challenging holes, including two 200 yard plus par threes on the back nine. Plenty of course management is required to get round, which for me is a big plus about the course. Highly recommended and I will look to play there again, sometime soon.

Good Mature Course

Played here via a TSG arranged game booked through T off times, good value at £15 for a round late Sunday morning.

Practice facilities
They have a new driving range (did not use, but it looked ok, if not a bit narrow). Couldn't find a chipping green, has putting green and a couple of practice nets near the 1st for those who want to warm up before T off.

Clubhouse/Parking
Changing rooms onsite, did not use the bar but I believe it's ok. I found parking a bit tight, not many spaces available at 11am.

Course
As others had said this is a quite a tight course, and there is no need to play driver on most holes. Fairways, greens and bunkers were all in good condition and the course itself is nice to look at with a good mix of trees Silver birches and weeping willows. Out of bounds on a few holes mainly to right and water comes into play on 2-3 holes, the rough is thick but semi rough is ok. The fringe around the green was tricky, too deep for a putter on most holes, even chipping the grass really grabs hold of the club.

Few dog-legs on the course and a few blind shots (2-3), but overall relatively easy to navigate. Couple of the Par 3's are 200 yards+ and into the wind these can be difficult to reach, also a couple of long par 4's. There are a few ditches on this course, which mainly come into play from the T, so course management is essential for shooting a good score. The course was quite when I played, so good pace of play, and I'm told this is usually the case after the members have played their early morning rounds.

Finally I'm told in the winter this course does not do well with heavy rain being clay based, so best to play in summer where possible for the best experience.

Overall quite impressed with the course.and Would definitely go back to play again.

Great value all round

This was my first round at The Burstead and found the clubhouse and course to be inline with all the high praise that I'd heard of it, you know its the start of a good day when a big mug of tea and biccies comes in well under the £2 mark. The course was a challenge for my usual hit big style of play and so had to make adjustments. The course in its presentation was immaculate from tee to green, well worth a visit and would thoroughly enjoy a return.

The Burstead

I had not played The Burstead since 2009 so was a bit rusty on which way to go even to finding the club.
Burstead is set in between Warley and the South Essex courses, but it is certainly not the poor cousin. It has some testing par threes and many many ditches which tend to catch out the big hitters.
Driver only really needed on half a dozen holes, position is the key here not distance.
If I got to play here regually I reckon I would put in a low score. The day was very hot 30 degrees+ which did not help. The greens were very fast, but also very true.
I did not eat at the club house but friends said the food was excellent. I also did not try the practice facilities other than a quick putt on the practice green which helped.
Staff were also very friendly and helpful.
I would certainly recommend this lovely little parkland course.

Pleasant course, good greens

I have played Bursted many times since it opened early 90's. Greens are always in good condition.
Bunkers can be a pain if you are unfortunate to go in them, some are very steep faced. Rest of the course is pleasant. Did not use the club house on this visit, although in the past the bar was excellent with a good atmosphere.

Fantastic course

Played The Burstead again this week and loved it, even though we played in high winds. Every part of the course is in great condition. Some great holes with well placed ditches and bunkers, you have to leave the driver in the bag on a few holes. I am back here again next week and will be returning throughout the summer.

Straight will be Rewarded

Set in peaceful Essex countryside, The Burstead is definately worth a visit. Although not a hilly course, it's an interesting design with a variety of dogleg holes, lateral ditches and bunkers giving course management challenges.

Fairways looked good, but I didn't play from them very often! Many are edged with mounds and small trees, giving you a lie with ball above/below feet or with branches to avoid. Straight hitters will score well here though, as it's not a long course.

Large teeing areas have just been re-seeded and greens with more grassy mounds/banks at the sides & back provide big targets, but today they were hard and so not receptive to a shot from distance. The 16th is one to look forward to playing - a short dogleg left where a carefully placed tee shot leaves a short pitch over water to a large green.

This was an internet booking at £10 (thanks Ed - how does he find them?!) which is great value for a good golf course.

Quality & fantastic value

Well what a course this was for just £11

Greens in top condition, fairways lush and the tee box's rather good.
All this helped by the fact the clubs championship is due to be played on Saturday.

Best condition course i have played in the area during this so called summer

Nice and quiet.....

Maybe I have been playing too many courses close to motorways recently but the first thing I enjoyed about the course was how relaxing and tranquil it was! The course itself is parkland and twists and turns with no two holes the same. The course has plenty to keep your interest. Bunkers are plenty, so good course management required and although fairly short (I didn't use more than an 8 iron for my second shot until the 10th) don't be fooled. Generally well maintained and a nice friendly clubhouse with a good outside area, which must be great to enjoy a post game drink at during the summer. Glad I visited and whilst we were fortunate to get it at internet prices but I would happily pay more and look forward to going back soon!

Definitely recommended.

Parkland course. Fairway, Bunkers & Greens were in excellent condition. Some fairways have lateral ditches. Therefore course management comes into play. Two long par 3’s. 16th is the signature hole. You will find practise hole, putting green, driving nets & friendly staff. Definitely recommended.

Great Course

Played here on an internet booked bargain deal. Really nice course to play.

Tight in some places, and a few out of bounds areas which cost me a few shots! Quite a few bunkers, and one really large one with an island in the middle (looks like it may have been a pond at one time).
Going back again next week and can't wait!

GOOD COURSE TO PLAY ALL YEAR ROUND

This is a good course to play all year round general condition was very good the greens are still quite slick to putt on,played some holes off the mats while work being done on tees. The fairways where wet in some places you get that with winter golf. They allowed trolleys on the course but buggies where not permitted the day we played, the course was to wet.
It has a good friendly clubhouse and the food is quite nice, changing rooms are adequate but not brilliant the showers run a little cold.
I played here with a society and we are having a return visit later in the year.I do think the GREEN FEES are a bit much for this course although they do take 2 fore 1
vouchers with not many restrictions on times you can play.
They have a small putting green and practice area over the back of the course nothing really special to promote.
Probably one of the better courses in the area to play.
I will post a game on the site later in the year to play there.
