Great Course

Was my first visit to Birchwood. I really enjoyed the course. The only issue I have is that the bunkers can be maintained a bit better. I visited them more than I would have liked to and on a few occasions found cigarette butts etc in there. This is a very minor criticism though. Pace of play was great. I absolutely loved the facilities and course and will definitely be back.

Great afternoon at Birchwood Park

Haven't played the course for a number of years, the facilities seems to have been improved, there wasn't a gym or swimming pool last time I visited. Unfortunately on the day we played they were having a power-cut so none of the buildings were open, only the golf could continue. The course was in excellent condition, the fairways looking freshly mowed in strips and the greens true to putt on. Only comment is the bunkers could do with some sand in them, one seemed to be in the middle of being renovated and had no sand at all, only the tarmac permeable base (luckily didn't go in it). Teeing of on a Thursday at 3pm we (2-ball) managed a 3h45m round, which we thought was superb on a very hot afternoon (30+), hardly saw another person on the course all afternoon. Talking with the Marshall afterwards he said we were very lucky as usually it's busy and rounds can take between 4 and 5 hours. Would definitely play again on less busy week days (outside school holidays), as would expect weekends to be closer to the 5 hour round mark, with queuing on tees. Well worth the money (£31) some challenging holes especially on the back nine, in particular the 15th (great hole), very happy with a 5 on this par 4.

Mainly good condition

Overall the course is looking pretty good. Bunkers are suffering from the wind and rain of late - and below the 'sand' is rubberized sheet or artificial turf! Ever seen a ball bounce high from a bunker?
Rest of the course is good, maybe everyone should actually use the pitchmark repairer they carry in the bag?
Club house was friendly and welcoming. As usual Burghill Golf are doing it right.

Well worth the visit

Everything was fine, though booked online but wouldn't except the voucher code B42 buggy for 2. Phoned and was told they don't reserve buggies it was first come first served. But when we arrived there were 4 buggies not being used but was told they were reserved? Anyway was quite busy so was glad to have walked.

Sunny day @ Birchwood Park Golf Centre

We were lucky that the sun was shining because we had a long wait on most of the tee's. Too many players that day.

Good course let down bad by members

This is an open shortish course, usually in good condition. It rained very heavily just before we teed off in March - and the course was fine, no standing water, and the surface was fair considering. However, the members need to learn a lesson in manners. A large group had a tee time booked for when it was raining. However they just waited in the Clubhouse, and then jumped onto the 1st Tee when it stopped, an hour after their tee time. Therefore anybody, including us, who had a tee time a bit later, couldn't get anywhere near the 1st Tee ??!! This had not been arranged with the pro shop or anything. Being a member does NOT mean you can just push aside anybody who isn't !!! Very poor advertisement for this otherwise nice club.

Birchwood Park - In Good Nick

Just played Birchwood Park on a very windy & overcast, dreary day. The course is in good nick for the middle of winter, with the greens in excellent condition. Well worth a visit at the moment !!

decent greens, made my putting look good

I've played here before but forgot the layout. its got some tricky holes especially 11th and 15th. the 11th I was lucky to bogey and i'm not sure it should be stroke index 17. the 15th hole I didn't get nowhere near it lol. the staff are friendly the pro shop is well equipped I went some where else to have food so I cannot comment on that. playing it again in a private match on the 5/5/15 can't wait

Birchwood is part of the Burhill Group, all their courses are superb.

Birchwood is a great little course. The greens are very challenging. The stroke index 1,2 & 3 are tough holes. I parred the stroke index one, but could never birdie it.
The par 5's & 3's are not as tough as many of the par 4's. I will return to Birchwood.
The staff, shop & restaurant are superb. Great food and very reasonably priced.

A little test

The course was in good condition considering the time of year. Greens caught me out - some slow, some fast. A challenging course. Watch out for the 15th. Clue in the sign at the tee. If you are with people who haven't played before, suggest you go and have a look before you take your shot around the dog leg left. £33.00 for 18 holes and bacon roll should have included a full English instead.

Great Course for all!

I hadn't played here for a year, and was really looking to getting back here! It didn't let me down, every hole has a challenge, although some low handicappers may complain the fairways are wide and forgiving. What you do need here is a good drive off most tees, fortunately for me yesterday I was driving further than I've ever driven before (one down hill drive measured on my Garmin @ 278 Yards! I normally drive 170 - 200, I'm really unsure where they came from?). The greens were in good condition. If I had to be critical about this place it would be is over-priced, although I only play twilight which helps.

I'd recommend a visit, you wont be disappointed

Would I play course again - yes. Hospitality NO!

Nice course.
Water comes into on 2 holes.
Some doglegs and an interesting stroke index 1 with second shot dropping down about 50 yards.
I would play course again.

I would not go back for the friendly staff!

They said we had not all paid for green fees....this went on for a while and poor Daniel took the brunt as he had booked game. Assumed guilty by staff who said quote "we have not got this wrong, you have not all paid". We had though as we all proved by way of receipt for credit card payments and by those that paid cash as well as all had score cards which you could only get once paid.
Even starter said 2 would not be able to play as we had not all paid!!
They had got it wrong!
Very nice customer service - would not be planning to go back for this reason.

Busy pay&play but good course and clubhouse

Very dry and looking quite scruffy in places but that reflects the weather. Wide fairways with tight lies mean you have to play links golf in summer. Greens play better than they look. Expect a manicured course and you'll be disappointed but expect pay and play and you'll be pleasantly surprised by this quite challenging and good value course.

Good course.......

The first thing you notice when you arrive is the size of the place, the car park alone you could get lost in. The course itself I really liked; A hilly front nine will get you puffing and whilst its long in places, its quite forgiving as the fairways are fairly wide. But dont be fooled, you will still need to think your way round to post a good score. I loved views of Kent from some of the tees and the greens were VERY good and should be handled with care(very fast!). My only disappointment was the breakfast? A bacon roll to me is not a breakfast...However, I will happily return!

Birchwood Park Golf Centre

Being my local course I play here a fair bit but am not a member. The pro shop is a good size with a range of equipment to suit. The tea, coffee, food facilities are superb and would highly recommend the english breakfast. The course is at present in excellent condition with no winter temp greens or tee boxes. It's a decent challenge for the high handicap, but low handicap golfers may find it a bit easy.

Good club and good course for all abilities

Played Birchwood Park (main course) for the first time last week and was pleasantly surprised.

It's a reasonably new course and some parts look it (young/new trees etc) whilst some looks older (maybe laid out over what was a mix of farmland and parkland?). Anyway the course was well laid out to make for some interesting holes with water coming into play on a couple of holes.

The course was generally well maintained with good sized, fast greens (albeit very hard - I guess to preserve them as long as possible).

The practice facilities were pretty good and welcome!

The clubhouse had a large pro shop with lots of people to help and the bar/catering all looked good.

All in all a nice little day out. The only caveat would be that the fairways are pretty wide and there is virtually no rough so perfect for mid-high handicappers but low handicappers may find it a little too forgiving (not a problem I have I'm afraid!).
