Lullingstone Valley Course - 9 delightful holes

Played the 9 hole course at Lullingstone today. I'd forgotten how lovely it is. No par 5s, but some very tricky par 3s and interesting par 4s. The course is in extremely good condition, the greens exceptional - very quick. Was able to practice my putting beforehand as they have facilities to do so. Didn't use the bar so can't comment but the guys in the pro shop were very friendly and welcoming. I'll be booking again for sure.

A course for the long hitter!

Like other reviews the course is set amongst the gentle slopes and valleys of some lovely Kent countryside. Quite exposed in places but bracing at the same time. This course is a real test for your driving skills as nearly all the par 4’s will need 240+ to have a chance of of reaching the greens with your irons, or like me having to reach into the bag to use a hybrid and still not quite reaching, which all adds up. In fairness my putting distance went awry but definitely not helped by the very poor greens - very bobbly all over!
This time of year (mid November) the light disappears by 3.45 so you will have to contend with the vast Saturday crowd that also want to get around - suspect quite pleasant for a mid week game.
Would I come back again - yes. This course is a toughy (if like me you’re still learning the game) but will reward the good fairway hitter. No real blind holes which is a little bit of a shame as it sets apart the long hitters from those that are a bit more wiley with the shorter clubs.
Very windy narrow roads to get there so be careful. Clubhouse was OK. Nice breakfast.

Fantastic views/ lovely course

What a lovely course! Shame it was in bloody awful condition.I really enjoyed the course , some great holes with some spectacular views. Very long course for me (being November every course us long for me)Most par 4's i was hitting driver 5 wood and 9 iron.Loads of sand on the greens where they were treating them (no money back on our green fee)plenty of sand in bunkers and i found a few of them.Fairways were reasonable for November very fogiving course Would like to play again in the summer. Was it worth the round trip of 230 miles from Norwich and back Mmmm Yes i think so. Pleased i played it.For a municipal course one of the best ive played Well worth a visit 7/10 There you have it!

Great views

Really enjoyed playing here, though it was helped by glorious weather, and the fact tees shots were running on well. Greens good, and plenty of sand in bunkers. Only slight negative was the clubhouse was a bit dated and tired, but there was scaffolding around most of it, so maybe it was in the throws of being refurbished? Look forward to playing it again, though some of the blind bends, and narrow lanes to get there are a bit hairy, so beware!

Parkland - Good condition and interesting layout

Situated at the end of a twisty, narrow track (with passing points) take care getting to this course. Once arrived you will find adequate car parking. There is a spike bar - so it is OK to change in the car park and bring your stuff down to the neatly appointed clubhouse.

Staff welcoming and food was good, well prepared and served nicely.

This is a well maintained parkland - with what seems like vast open spaces and like some other Kent-courses, lots of side hill elevations. Whilst there aren't too many noteworthy holes the bonus here is that there are few if any 'blind holes' what you see is what you get - and the scenery is quite pretty too, not many trees around and a lot of the holes leave you exposed to the wind... Greens were well kept but a bit bobbly...

Not too difficult to walk this course - although it might be nicer without wind/rain.

Very well looked after course

Great course with some fantastic views. Very hilly with a few sloping fairways but a good test of golf for all handicaps.
For a council run course it is in great condition.
Well worth a visit.
Good practice facilities and a friendly clubhouse and well stocked Pro shop.

nice course pity about the greens

Lullingstone is a very open course with lots of sloping fairways. The greens were quite poor but the rest of the course was good. It has a well stocked pro shop but I didn't notice a driving range. The breakfast was really nice and the staff were really friendly. I will play this course again

lovely challenging course

really enjoyed Lullingstone, it has an excellent layout and a challenge for all levels. we played on a very windy day meaning our scores were not so good but the views and layout helped me forget that.... Greens need a lot of work as they really do let everything else down, so fingers crossed they will be sorted or the summer

Length. Width. Depth.

For a public course this is pretty well maintained. But that's not a good reason to spend an hour in traffic around the M25 getting there.

But there are good reasons for doing so: the views; the incredibly spacious layout; the wide, wide fairways.

It's a long course - well over 6,200 yards from the yellow tees including several 400+ yard par 4s and still only par 70. So it's quite a challenging distance which is just as well because it's almost as broad as it is long. If your tee shot misses the fairway you might be in the next county.

It's very hilly in parts and the views are impressive.

If you want breakfast order at least an hour before your tee time and remind them to cook it every 10 minutes.

Cracking course, good test

A decent length course (just under 6300 yards off the yellows), very nicely set up with generally wide but sloping fairways challenging you to play for position. Very few weak holes, though a couple toward the end of the back nine seem a little out of character. Generally really good condition.

I really liked the clear distinction between first cut and 'proper' rough, and the areas around the greens of the par 3's and slightly further from the greens of the par 4's were intentionally short but very dense, almost US Open-like.

A decent driving range (tokens from pro shop, in a different direction from the car park) and putting green with small chipping area, along with a small 9 hole course make up the generous facilities and there was plenty of inside and outside clubhouse space.

Definitely worth a visit.

Great course

Lullingstone park very open fairways so wont cause much trouble, but lots of slopes on fairways, views superb, greens fairly good a tad slow but this could be due to the rain, all in all a must play course

Good value 18

Stunning backdrop of the Kent countryside as you walk round, beautiful views. The course is harder than it looks, very undulating fairways which always makes the iron shots tricky. I suspect that a straight hitter would score well here. At £13.50 well worth a visit

Pleasently surprised

Paying £18.50 to play on a municipal course I didn't expect such well planned holes in such an open space with such nice greens.

There wasn't a single hole that didn't present a challenge of some description and all the greens were in great condition bar the 18th which seemed to be recovering (quite well) from a set of tractor tracks!

Apart from one greenside bunker on the stroke index 1 hole that looked like a large wild animal had been partying inside it the whole course was in great condition from tee to green.

The slight difficulty I found in locating the course was reflected in how remote it felt which is amazing considering the proximity of the M25!

Good municipal course..

A good municipal open long parkland course with wide undulating/sloping fairways & fairway bunkers.
So good course management comes into play to score well.
The only water hazards was on the 18th (not readily in play)
The greens have just been sanded, so were slow, with very little brakes in them.
Bunkers were in good condition.
Some of the fairways were tire thought.
Excellent club house & pro shop with friendly staff.
Small practise putting/chipping green & driving range.
Sadly no driving nets.
Value basic on:- internet price £13 Sunday@11:30
Overall a fair challenge I would come again

A good test

This is the first time I have played 18 and I really enjoyed the challenge. Lots of contours and to think about. Stay straight and you can score well. Greens were good considering time of year. There were one or two temporaries and mats, which is always a disappointment, but any game of golf in late December is a result.

Played well for December

I have only previously played the nine-hole course at Lullingstone, I found the 18 hole course to be a good challenge. Plays very long in places, with lots of awkward sloping lies. Greens were mixed, but good for time of year. Would be interesting to play in the summer.

long walk nice course.

After negotiating the winding roads to get there what a beauty. The first hole a straight forward par 4 and you think yea its ok.Then you walk through the wood and the course opens up.Runs around a valley so you dont really run up and down holes.Long par 4"s,well positioned bunkers, very wispy rough.Overall i liked this course would definetley come and play again,Also the breakfast was good to.

Well worth playing

Plays long.
Great holes - all different. Great views.
Sand in bunkers not great in places but seems to be the case everywhere due to the weather we have had. Course in good condition - not muddy and bunkers clear of water.
No flat lies on this course.
Greens true, slightly slow!

Would I play again - yes.

Great experience

So close to M25 but only thing we could hear was occasional roar of races at Brand's Hatch.
Course with character, holes nicely spread out with different challenges making golfer think about each shot.
Loved it, especially chipping in at par 3 5th for 2nd Birdie of SES season :-)

A good track...

Played here on a bright spring day and enjoyed the course alot. Not overly long, it does however feel long due to its continuous undulation. Cut into a valley, it also has some great views. My only complaint would be the greens are little fluffy in places but they were flat and true, so nothing some good dry weather and a decent cut won't fix. Some friendly Pro shop staff too. Which all in all means I'll be going back soon!

Very frosty day

Clubhouse good, nice breakfast, £4.50 for fry up, that includes coffee/tea.
Course not bad in difficult conditions, very frosty so greens were very diificult to play, fairways not bad in light of the conditions, would be great in the summer.
