Chislehurst Golf Club

Chislehurst GC, founded in 1894, is an 18 hole members course within about 70 acres of parkland in the heart of Chislehurst. The course layout is attributed to Harry S Colt.

The course is only 5,106 yards from the white tees, a par 66 with an SSS of 65. Because of its small acreage, the course has an abundance of par 3s, ie 8, with only 8 par 4s and 2 par 5s. There are a number of holes where fairways criss-cross and also many tees are very adjacent to greens. At busy times this adversely impacts on the speed of play, as does also the par 3s.

There are numerous elevation changes and for such a small course it is a difficult uphill walk in places.

The course is in very good condition, greens are very undulating and tricky to read line and pace, especially for an adhoc player on the course. Greens, especially the par 3s, are surrounded by deep challenging bunkers.

Individually each hole is a very good golfing challenge however collectively the overall layout of the course with the excess of par 3s, does not appeal to me. The 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes are very difficult holes especially in a match play situation!

My club Cherry Lodge play Chislehurst annually in our home/away Kent Vet's League matches. The clubhouse is a grand house, ie Camden Place, which has great historical significance for which I have no personal interest. However, fortunately there is a very good rapport between the players of Chislehurst and Cherry Lodge and the venue is an imposing location for a convivial post match lunch after a very competitive pairs match.

The nature of the course layout gives the home members a very significant home advantage; they have a near 100% winning home record in recent years. Fortunately their team results away from home are not so strong! I'm very happy to play the course occasionally against their Vet's team but won't be rushing to play it again soon.

Midweek visitor green fees are £40 of £35 with a County Card. A bit overpriced! Luckily under our reciprocal league competition arrangments we simply pay a match fee to cover the cost of our pre-game coffee and post-game two course lunch.

Team golf is the best VFM way to get to play other good courses.

Was expecting a bit more from an area like Chislehurst .
Greens have got the dreaded virus , all very patchy and rough.No markers to show next tee
so three of us wandering about looking at tiny markers set flat on tee box . From some greens you can see two or three tees within 50 yards as it is very compact course .Nothing to show direction of fairway from tee.
Superb club house , one of the best I've seen .Would not rush back.
