Good Public Course in Great Condition

Played here today and the course was in great condition, although the greens were a little on the slow side. Tree lined fairways and well marked routes to the tees. Not the longest track but interesting, all the same. Would definitely play here again !!

Great course, super value for money

Poult wood is a public course which was not in good condition a few years ago.
Now however the course has undergone a transformation and is top notch.
The greens, although a little "fluffy" are large and well kept.
Fairways and bunkers are nice.
I think the course is good value for money at £18 for a week day when I play.
I can also play a quick nine, usually in the afternoon, for £11 (18 hole twilight rate) as long as the course is not too busy.
What I like most about the course, unlike a lot of parkland courses I play, is it's not hilly with only one or two blind tee shots.
The only negative is that the drainage is not the best, so after a lot of rain, the bunkers are more like little lakes.
I like this golf course.

Mr John Clines

The course in genral is tight but forgiving. we have been playing over the winter where thay have been installing a draining system as the course can get a bit boggy in the rain. There have been several temp greens over the winter but this week end only the 17th was temp.We can't wait till the sprinng as we feel the course will come to life.

Master Anthony Clines

We have been playing Poult wood over most of the winter the course has suffered over the winter with the rain and the course has been playing boggy. For a few weeks they had to put out sevral temp greens but this weekend 22/02/09 there was only one (17th) The course in genral is tight and can't wait for spring as i feel the course will come to life.Thay have been installing new drainage over the winter so by the spring the course will settle down. All in all i like the corse and i rate it 8 out off 10 as it is a par 68.

Great value

Recently played the course and enjoyed both occasions. Its not a long track and the fairways are quite generous, and the rough (of which I now have an intimate knowledge!)was not so punishing that you couldn't get out, or lost your ball. Although the greens were rather hard and unreceptive they were very good to put on - moderate speed, but they played very true. On the down side - some of the fairways (especially 1,2 & 18) were seriously lacking in grass. I think this has something to do with the large number of mature trees that line the fairways competing for water, and with a few more weeks of reasonable weather they could start to look very threadbare. My second shot on 1st, from the centre of the fairway was effectively playing of soil! The course was nicely thought out with plenty of challenges although I didn't register any of the holes as memorable - they all seemed very similar. Its important to remember that a weekday round is £15 and for that I have no problem in recommending PW as very good value for money - just don't expect something manicured, practise playing off tight lies, and you'll have an enjoyable round of golf!-
