Great 2 day break!

Just spent the last 2 days on a golf break at Prince’s GC.
All 3 x 9 hole courses were in superb condition with well cut fairways and superb greens.
We stayed at the Lodge which is adjacent to one of the holes and a short drive to the clubhouse.
Friendly staff who served great food and also in the pro shop where we were given free yardage books as part of the green fee.
We paid £170 for 2 rounds of golf, dinner bed and breakfast which I thought was a superb bargain.
Definitely go back there for the same deal.
A must try break as you will enjoy all 3 courses.

worth a visit

first time at Princes, played the Dunes and Himalayas courses both in excellent condition (Nov 2018)Great day and totally enjoyable.

Greens are challenging and fairways narrow, not ideally suited to the wayward golfer.
Some of the bunkers are in the category of: OMG lets hope my ball does not go in there!

Course is exposed to the weather being located near to the coast.

Would I play there again....yes for sure.

An experience

Like many true links courses, your golfing experience at Prince's will be heavily influenced by the weather. We arrived to bright sunshine however a seasonally stiff wind blew in relentlessly from the sea for the entire day.

Our time on the Shore 9 offered no respite from the wind whatsoever and this is the most exposed 9 of the 27 holes. The fairways throughout the course were in very nice condition as were the greens which were also very fast, just what you would expect.

The entire course is very consistent; tees, greens, fairways, rough and the overall character and feel. There were a lot of fairway bunkers undergoing maintenance and therefore marked GUR however with the wind conditions this felt fair and we were quite happy.

The Himalayas 9 has been undergoing a major reconfiguration since August 2017 and is well on track to be complete by this summer (2018). It didn't compromise our experience, the 9 holes in play were slightly easier than the other 18 but interesting and challenging. However, the new configuration looks much better and I look forward to returning to experience what promises to be the most challenging 9 of the course.

Excellent Golfing Experience - Recommended

A fair but challenging links course. I played the Shire & Links combination of holes; the combination used by most visiting societies and for championship play. We played it as an Open Seniors Competition.

Played in March 2017; in benign windy conditions; the course was in excellent condition; whilst other courses were suffering the ravages of a wet winter the course was dry, fairways were 'lush' and receptive and the greens were dry but a little slow of pace. Difficult to get to grips with.

The course played longer than expected with approaches often coming up short of the greens; reflected by the fact that I failed to hit any GIR.

It is a very level course to walk. The greens and fairways were littered with substantial, but beautiful looking, bunkers. On the day my driving was good to excellent with one exception into the long rough. If you get into the rough get back to fairway asap, take the loss of distance over the hail-Mary recovery attempt.

Despite getting excellent advice from my two playing partners who had played Princes numerous times, indeed one is a member of neighbouring Royal St Georges; my score was 10 shots worse than I had 'budgeted' for, given it was an open seniors competition' played on a course I had not played before. This was disappointing because most of this excess was due to a combination of poor fairway play on the day [normally one of my good points] and failing to find any of the par 3 greens, rather that poor driving.

I hope to get the chance to play here again in the not too distant future; especially to see whether my new local knowledge of the course is of any use.

The competition entry fee was £50 including coffee on arrival; 18 holes and a one course post-match hot meal. However, I wouldn't want to pay more than that to play it again.

An Open-Like Links Experience

Played a day ticket here on a sunny Thursday and thoroughly enjoyed it. There's a great feeling when you arrive, on classic isolated links terrain, away from the mad rush, with sea views and untamed land.

I love links golf and am collecting them for my golf CV. Out of all of the ones I've played, this one felt most like playing in The Open championship:

* Challenging tee shots to clear the rough
* Undulating fairways
* Penal rough if you miss the fariway
* Scary sand traps including monsters like the Sarazen Bunker
* Nice greens that roll true, though less fiendish than some I've played

There are three 9s and we played Shore+Dunes (6600 yards) followed by Himalayas+Shore (6400 yards). As a rubbish golfer I played very well to shoot 99 and 95 - I could do far worse around here.

Cost was £80 including complimentary bacon rolls and range balls - it was well worth the money, and staff were very welcoming. Also this is probably the number 1 area for golf in South East England, so needs to be an annual fixture on the SES tour - thoroughly recommended.

punishing

great course but very punishing, played from the white tees in a cross wind so driving the ball well a necessity and even then it was often everything you had to get near the green, great experience but wears you down after a while

Tough conditions but great history..........

Played here on a 'Golf News' society day and was excited about playing a course with such history and location(Gene Saracen won The Open here in 1932). Being a links course, you really do feel the varying conditions and it can be all seasons in a day! Loved the drama of the course with narrow fairways and humps and bumps everywhere but it is in a state of modifiction right now which means there is a lot of works being done on the course. However, great fun and will definately go back! Returned here in Oct 2011 and the course is looking near finished with fairways like billiard tables, really tough course but thats what the Pro's would want, however my games just isnt good enough for it but its fun trying!

Friendly & Good Value

I have considerable affection for this course and always look forward to playing there, even though sometimes it gets very much the better of my game. Three loops of 9 holes, by far the most difficult being the Dunes.

Excellent value can be obtained by entering the open competitions run by the club, which take place throughout the spring/summer/autumn. This is a final Open qualifer course and back in the 30's hosted an Open itself. It's not easy to play but there are more difficult links courses close by - Littlestone G.C. for one!

Always in great condition and NEVER gets wet. Fairways are reasonably wide but the rough can get very long. Greens always play well but can get very slick in a dry summer.

I love this course and have good memories of the welcome you always get from the staff and local members when I play there.

Give it a try - you may become like me and need your 6 x a year fix.

Enjoy
