Superb course!!

Played here on the 27 October in the semi final of the Guards Golf Society Captains Prize. My host has been a member at RSGs for many years . . .so I had a free round . . .which was the best bonus ever considering that it can be over £200 to play this Open Championship course if I had have just rocked up!

The clubhouse is amazing and has all sorts of memorabilia on show, but you have to be in a shirt and tie to get into the clubhouse after 1100 . . . .luckily I was told about this so I was correctly dressed.

A superb hot roast beef sandwich and chips plus a drink before we headed out on the course . . .and quite cheap considering were we where. I was expecting it to be a lot more.

The course is just superb . . .fairways immaculate and greens so true. Some great views around the course. Iconic holes that we have all seen during last years Open Championship. Such a great feeling playing the course yesterday. I will definitely be back to play it . . .but check to see if you can get any offers between November and March. Seen you may get it for £65 for 18 holes next month which would be superb.

A course yardage book is £9 and quite detailed!!

A must play course if you ever get the chance. To walk in the footsteps of the greats is one incentive to hack your way round!!

BELOW EXPECTATION

Currently ranked 2nd best course in England and the venue for this years Open Championship. I travelled to Kent to take advantage of the £90 Winter rate. The link attached gives you as much detail and opinion as you could want - http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/productdetails.asp?id=19. I appear to be in the minority in considering the ranking to be too high. Yes, there is plenty of history, the course is a majestic links in places and is in great condition throughout, however, there are some ordinary holes, the scenery is ugly in places and the clubhouse is unwelcoming. For my own part, give me Sunningdale, Woodhall Spa, Walton Heath and others above RSG but this won't stop me seeking out the likes of Birkdale, L&SA, Liverpool etc for more links experiences.
