Great course for the high handicapper

Much improved over the last few years especially the bar which used to be a bit of a dive. Course is well maintained and practice areas are excellent. Not the most challenging of courses but good for the high handicapper keen to break 100.

Only negative were the loos which could do with a makeover

Just good for a practice round

It's a short but fun course with no par 5 holes. The condition of the course has improved in the past year, and the greens are a lot better than they used to be, but don't expect any luxuries like waste bins, ball washers or rakes in bunkers. Because it's set on public land there are often members of the public and dog walkers wandering about totally unaware of the danger of flying golf balls which can be quite disruptive to your game. I once had to ask a lady to move her picnic blanket away from the front of the green on the par 3 7th (we were waiting to tee off). There are also golfers who just walk onto the course for free (no marshals on the course, and when I mention this to the staff they just shrug their shoulders, and I don't blame them -- it's a dodgy area). There was a time when you'd be offered illegal drugs by passing dealers, but thankfully I haven't seen any lately. There are often locals hanging around tees and talking loudly, so if you're the type that likes a quiet tee, avoid weekends! I only play here as a last resort and book through teeofftimes, because the regular weekend green fee is crazy in my opinion. There is no dress code or golf course etiquette in evidence, but keep an open mind and try it for yourself. The staff are very friendly, and helpful - clearly doing their best. I brought all this to the attention of the company when they first took over the management a couple of years back.

Up & down

I'm sure I didn't see this course at its Sunday best, as the winter rains of 2014 meant very damp fairways and eight temporary greens. That was a bone of contention within our group, as having rung up a day earlier to find out if trollies were allowed, they failed to mention that nearly half the greens were out of action.

The view from the first tee will give you an idea of what to expect, with 5 holes lined up next to each other. That layout is repeated on other areas of the course too.

This isn't a long course, and thetre aren't any par 5's, but there are 5 or 6 tricky holes. The 14th is very much protected by a lake and a big tree, and is probably the most picturesque hole on the course.

My lasting impression of the course is one with too many holes that just run up and down, and one probably suited to mid to higher handicap players.
